Sorry it wasnt much help for you.

Microsoft has nothing on what system restore needs and the beta repair has what I was able to see running when I would run system restore. I need to find a way to really tear into it and trace what it needs to runs. Still amazed how MS has no repair info on it when it is used by so many people.

You are right MS doesn't really want the user or programmer to know how System restore runs, same with their File history  backup and restore for windows 8

So far their only answer to fixing it is to do a repair install of windows

I started all of this about 2 months ago when I accidently deleted 3 Realtek drivers. I started getting blue screen crashes, so I tried to re-install drivers and that didn't work. So I eventually after chasing the problem for quite a while. I ended up reinstalling Window7 64bit Home Premium.
After a few more adjustments I finally got rid of the blue screen.
So I found this program during the search for a good registry program.
I ran it for the first time tonight and I am very pleased. Here is the Log of the Repairs:

hello! I used tweaking the program and I was careful to disable antivirus software before kick off. Now I get a message from Windows Security Center as my antivirus (I have norton antivirus) is not detected. using windows xp sp3. how can I fix it?

You didnt post in the right section, this thread is for system restore repair.

Your program will be okay after your antivirus updates itself. the WMI was rebuilt, which reports to the seucirty center. when your AV updates it will write itself to the WMI again and that message will go away

Your program cannot add. i luv this marquee, and wish i had it on my own forum. Verrrrry cool!  :artist:

When I ran the Registry Backup?  It said it fixed 10/10 things. Fine!  :-)  I had, however,  selected 11 (or at least, the program pre-selected 11 items).  What happened to that eleventh one?  Well, I went back and ONLY checked the first six.  It said, 6/6 -- perfecto!  I then selected just the other five - and again, all is fine! 5/5!  But when I ran all eleven, it came back that TEN OUT of TEN!   :cheesy:  What happened to that 11th one? 6+5 = 11, right?  :undecided:

BTW, I found your software via the Microsoft offical Forums.  I foolishly allowed MS to download a bunch of "updates" without checking them out first, and have wound up without a firewall (error 8007042c).  A fellow user put up your site, and said he'd tried everything known to get that firewall on, and had no luck EXCEPT ... your way.  I am, right now, still trying to fix things and get the firewall back on.  What a mess!

Back to the salt mines .....

The registry backup wouldnt say it fixed 10 things :-)

Can you post a screen shot of the reg backup so I can see what it backed up.

Also it can only backup other profiles if the VSS service works, if it uses the fall backup method, which is the Windows API it can only backup the current user profile and the system registry files, it wont be able to grab any other profile.

Tweaking.com System Restore reports “Restore Point created at 15/7/2013 – 13:40:52” however this is not shown when Windows “Restore” is clicked. The last restore point is 4th July 2013.
Tweaking.com Registry Backup states - Volume Shadow Copy Running: Yes, Volume Shadow Copy Ready: Yes, “Successful! 18/18 Registry Files Backed Up. The Log_Backup.txt however states 15/07/2013 - 13:46:39] Use Fallback Backup Method: 1 (0 = No, 1 = Yes).
I am running Windows 7 64bit and  have 2 internal drives and one external all NFTS. These are divided into 7 partitions as follows:
Disk 1 C: Primary, Boot, System, Page File, Active, E:Primary, F:Primary
Disk 2 D: Primary, Page File G:Primary, H:Primary
Disk 3 (External) K:Primary, L:Logical (Backup)
Beta Repair System Restore run. Subsequently Create System Restore Point (C: Drive) fails with the message “The restore point could not be created for the following reason: The specified object was not found (0x80042308). System Protection will create restore points with “Only Restore Previous Versions of Files” selected for all drives with the exception of C:. If “Restore System Settings” is switched on for the C: Drive old restore points can be seen but if selected the message “The selected backup could not be found” is received.
Event Viewer Logs the following related message - Event ID 14: The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an IO failure on volume C:.
As you will appreciate Windows Backup does not work either.
Thanks for your work which, judging by the number of people with problems of this sort on the internet, is badly needed.

The specified object was not found (0x80042308)

That errors from any program means that it couldn't find a dll or ocx file that it needed.

Of course one of the problems is the error in the event viewer wont tell us what file it needs and MS list nothing on what files it uses.

And if the file it needs is ont he system a lot of times it just needs registered.

Hi there
Ok so I'm using your great program and glad to see your trying to fix the system restore
I have been having problems with this dam thing now for weeks and Microsoft is not at all concerned if it works
I'm currently using a program called RollbackRx because system restore is so unreliable
I have tried using your beta fix but it's no good it just will not work
if I use RollbackrRX and go back lets say a week or so The system restore will work
then within a day or so I try to do a system restore and it's knackered again any ideas ?
as I said earlier I tried your beta repair but it just won't fix it
and I know for a fact there are at least 6 restore points there I made from yesterday when it was working
I booted puter this morning and the system restore isn't working again (it says no restore points have been created etc)
I will  try to work with you by answering any questions you have in tryin to get your program to fix it
cheers
T

as I said earlier I tried your beta repair but it just won't fix it
and I know for a fact there are at least 6 restore points there I made from yesterday when it was working
I booted puter this morning and the system restore isn't working again (it says no restore points have been created etc)
I will  try to work with you by answering any questions you have in tryin to get your program to fix it
cheers
T

I am still trying to trace down that reg keys and files the system restore needs.

I still haven't been able to find any more information what so ever on what System Restore needs. But I have confirmed that system restore is different on each version of Windows. Every version of Windows they have changed System restore and what it needs and uses. But MS wont list any information about it.

Normally any errors int he event viewer have very little info in them on why it had trouble. Do you have any errors in the event viewer?

The only way to get .net working again is to fully remove it and reinstall it.

This tool will do the removing for you :-)

Do that, reboot and then install .net again.
