Tom -  this is exasperating. Ran chkdsk /F in normal mode:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

C:\Users\GLW>chkdsk /f
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N) N
C:\Users\GLW>exit

Next, ran in Safe mode, not from USB.  See attached, which is a .pf and I can't read.
Advanced tabs (see attached)  What do you advise I run in them?
Thank goodness system is running fine in spite of all this.  Gary

That's a normal prompt for a chkdsk.

You type y and press enter then restart where the chkdsk will execute.

When the chkdsk has completed, go Start - type eventvwr and press enter when Event Viewer comes up.

When Event Viewer opens ensure Event Viewer (Local) is highlighted - if it isn't then just click on it.

Expand Windows Logs - click on Application - Action - Find then type chkdsk into the Find box and press enter.

Cancel the Find box to read the log in the pane below.

Primarily you are looking to see if it reports any KBs in bad sectors.

If it does then perform a chkdsk /r and when that has completed, create a system image onto external media and a System Repair disk in preparation for a full HDD failure.

After you have performed the chkdsk, try Windows Repair again to see if it completes successfully and reboot.

I normally create a system image before running WR.

If the sfc /scannow still reports that it cannot repair files, then boot up with the USB and follow the steps to perform those cmds I've posted.

CHKDSK and SCAN NOW both came out OK.  Think I'm good.

WR Advanced tabs (see previous attachment)  What do you advise I run in them?

I still don't understand what you mean about the advanced tabs.

Are they the advanced options in WR ?

You just click on whichever you want to use, but I would advise creating a restore point first before each.

@Metaguy:

You wrote in your 1st post:

"I neither use nor want Chrome on my system. Period.  Couldn't find an uninstall.  I've taken steps to remove anything with Chrome through search."

Does this mean that you installed Windows Repair (WR) and then removed those 3 Chrome related *.dat files ? If so, no wonder you get those errors.

Those 3 files are only used when you want to run the "Enhanced Windows Disk Cleanup" tool in Windows Repair. With this tool you can add or delete rules (incliding these 3 rules) to the program called "Cleanmgr.exe", the disk clean up tool that comes with Windows itself.

Solution:
- Re-install WR.
- Open the file "file-list.txt" and remove the 3 lines that start with

"CleanMgrScripts\Google Chrome Cache 1 (For Each User Profile).dat"
"CleanMgrScripts\Google Chrome Cache 2 (For Each User Profile).dat"
"CleanMgrScripts\Google Chrome Cache 3 (For Each User Profile).dat"

- Save the file. Ready.
- Then these 3 errors shouldn't show up anymore.

Let us know whether or not this has helped.

@Metaguy:

Aren't you able to exclude these 3 files from Bitdefender ?

App is working fine, now.  FYI: Search found attached.  Notice dates.  I'm going to leave it as is.
Thanks to all.  KUDOS

@Metaguy;

Can you give more information about what you did to solve the problem ?

"file-list.txt" (see above) contains the checksums of almost all files (except e.g. for "file-list.txt") that are needed for the WR program. With the content of this file WR checks whether or not a file 1) is missing or/and 2) has been corrupted (e.g. during installation of WR).

I'm going to see if the ISO will load onto a DVD even though it's 5.5GB.

It won't - I've already tried it.
