Tascam Us-1800 Stopped Working Today
« on: October 03, 2021, 09:52:58 am »
I have a Tascam US-1800 USB 2.0 Audio Interface that stopped working today or yesterday. October 3rd today 2021. I tried to reinstall the most recent driver but keep getting an error message Installation failed. Contact Tascam customer support (Error:Timeout-0x0005). I realize this is discontinued but it has been working well up to yesterday. Seems to be just an issue with some stupid windows update or something I cant figure out. Anyone out there know the procedure I should follow to get this up and running again?? TIA

Have you tried your restore points back to when it was working.

Checking to see which programs are affected could give you a clue as to a possible cause if a recent download.

Can you try another USB port.

I did go there and scanned for affected programs and was told that programs and drivers will be deleted and some programs may not work. Depending on which restore point I would choose different programs would be affected. I am not that familiar with the option other than it keeps my system up to date.  I do know that the Audio interface is no longer updated by Tascam and it has not been for a couple of years I believe but it has continued working until the last 2 to 3 days.  This sucks, I dont want to screw my machine up and I hate windows for its constant updating this sucks!

I also have tried multiple ports. Do you have any other suggestions should I restore to an earlier point? I am not able to reinstall the driver I keep getting the same error message 0x0005 at the end.

That code is an Access Denied and could be caused by your antivirus program.

Providing you are choosing the correct driver, you could try installing it in Safe Mode with Networking.

If that doesn't resolve then try a restore point back to when it was working but make a note of the programs affected.

Does the device work in Safe Mode with Networking ?

Is there any way you could test the cable or get hold of another ?

From a Google, cables going down can be an issue.

I think the Audio interface might be fried. I had a brother laser printer hooked up through a series of power strips and surge protectors and the same day my audio interface went out I printed something and it caused my whole computer to just shut off instantly and my audio interface was flashing on and off until i turned it off. I guess I didnt realize it until now but think that must have caused some damage to the device.

Yes Printer does work. When audio took a crap I did not realize that my audio interface stopped working for a day or so.

I remembered the event viewer today so I was trying to locate an event in the event viewer but am not very familiar really with the results it gives or really what I am looking for. Under device manager-Tascam us 1800 in the event viewer the most recent event was jan of 2021 however there was a critical event on 10/2/2021 at 1206:31 which was about the time I think it crashed. Kernel power thing and that was likely when it crashed but not sure what I should be looking for to find out what caused the event. At this point I cant even reinstall the driver for the tascam, I uninstalled it a few days after it crashed and stopped working and I should have tried to roll it back or something other than uninstall but I didnt and now when I go to try to reinstall it will not reinstall I keep getting the same 0005 message and I try to install for an earlier operating system or as the administrator but cant get it up and running. Its either fried or I have not done something correct.  .

In Event Viewer if Event Viewer (Local) isn't highlighted then click on it and when it has read the data, check to see if any Critical have been recorded.

If not, click on Error and then on View All Instances of This Event in the lower right pane.

From there you can click on events with a date and time stampr for when your computer crashed.

The access denied code could be because of your antivirus program blocking the driver install, which is why I suggested trying to install it in Safe Mode with Networking.

This is a link for its manual which has a troubleshooting section which may help.

I haven't downloaded it to check.

I replied to you a few days ago but I think it did not go through, I was wondering what the process is to install using Safe Mode with Networking. I am not sure how to get to that spot Safe Mode with Networking. TIA again

Press and hold SHIFT throughout a Restart.

Click on Troubleshoot - Advanced options - Start-up Settings - Restart

Press F5

In that mode Win 10 disables wireless so you can either Ethernet connect or click on the wifi icon then on your SSID and then on Connect.

Left click away to close that pane where you will then see a full wifi icon.

You can then download and install the driver as normal.

Just reboot to return to normal mode.
