Jumpy UI!
« on: March 24, 2020, 02:51:05 pm »
This is windows 8 on my friend's laptop in Thailand.

been working on it for 3 nights now.

SFC /scannow stays 20 minutes at "beginning of verification phase... verification 100%" and just flashes and disappears.

I can run some programs, but hard to open folders or type. doing this remotely, or I would just format and reinstall.

can I run a command prompt from tweaking.com windows repair? I have the Pro version.

wonder if maybe stuck keyboard key? couldn't embed a video here is the link:

Win 8.0 install media may be outdated to use now to perform repair procedures as it is now 8.1.

However, if you can open a Command Prompt (Admin) enter this dism cmd followed by a sfc /scannow to see if that will resolve.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restoreheaalth

exit then reboot.

I was able to repair all the corrupt files using DISM, but it looks like the UI problem is a stuck key - the left arrow. she has used air to clean it and it still sticks sometimes.

even with it working now and then, I am unable to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 since the OS was installed in Thai I guess? I have changed all language and region settings to English and still no go.

so, for now, Windows 8 is working!

how to post a picture inline ??

Thank you

You could back up the personal stuff and perhaps do a clean install.

When you are prompted for a product key, select I don't have a key and it may auto activate.

You can create install media after reading https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Use a machine of the same language you want the install to be in.

It may be worth getting a new keyboard depending upon the cost as you are unable to determine why the key keeps sticking.

It's strange but I didn't get an email notification of your reply.

It's a laptop and they are on lockdown, I am doing this remotely from the US, she is in Thailand, doing a fresh install more or less impossible

it's running okay with Win8 for now, I say pull that key off and toss it!

all my forum notifications go to spam, even tho I have whitelisted "not spam" several times.

thank you for your time.

So can she use that Microsoft link to create the install media but use the dropdown to change the language of the version to do her own clean install ?

more or less impossible for her to do her own install.

unless I can figure out a workaround to do the upgrade will have to wait until I can visit, a few months I am guessing.

it's is working for her at least.

why do replies always go to spam in gmail? I have told gmail "not spam" many times.

If you don't think she's competent enough to do the clean install then it'll probably be best to wait.

I don't know what it is but since I was in hospital for a few days, my email notifications have also being going into the Spam folder.

I'll email Shane about it as I haven't made any changes either.

There could be a malfunction of the forum.
