Windows Repair 4.5.0

I've just test run 4.5.0 on my 1903 laptop and it has changed my computer considerably and not to my liking.

I would strongly advise creating a system image onto external media as I do, before running the repairs should adverse changes also appear on your computer afterwards.

I will be reporting to Shane what has happened to my machine.

Others may not experience detrimental effects, but it is best to take precautions should they occur.

There's a major problem with latest version 4.5.0.
Windows 64-bit, version 1903, build 18362.145.
After running only the "Permissions" repair and re-booting, can no longer log on to the normal user account.
Instead, a new "Temp" user account is created, and a warning appears that if any settings changes for the "Temp" account are made, that they will disappear upon reboot.
How to regain normal login?

Shane has identified a problem with the Permissions in that the program wasn't putting the correct ids back in.

Shane has modified the program and released the updated program.

I'll copy you what he has just told me.

will need to manually change the permissions on his profilefolder after that and once he is logged in he can run the permissions repair to fix the permissions after he is signed into his profile

It may need a Google to find how to do that.

When you are back up I would strongly advise you to start creating system images onto external media.

There are some steps in this article which should help to get around the temporary profile problem.

However, create a restore poin before aking any changes to the registry.

Shane suggests then running just the Permissions repairs in 4.5.1 which has fixed the bug for future users.

I would advise you though to start creating system images and certainly one prior to running any program that changes the registry.

Normal boot to desktop has now been restored.
Method used: boot from a secondary boot drive, with the former boot drive now configured as secondary, and simply navigate to the C:\Users\(user name) folder.
A pop-up window says that continuing will change the ownership properties. Click to continue.
That's all that was required to regain proper operation, after a reboot to the original boot drive.

Not everyone has a secondary boot drive but glad you have found a way around it.

I would advise though that you start creating system images.

What was the original reason why you ran the repair program ?
