This is the wifes laptop and hasn't had any backups etc.

Windows 7 Lenovo - hangs up after boot, unable to access or run anything.
Eventually reports:
C:\windows\sysWOW6c\d3d9.dll is either not designed to run on windows or has an error.
then reports:
Dropbox cannot be loaded - error code 0xc000006 (Im not sure what dropbox is).
then reports:
AVGUAI - application error 0xc000006
then:
explorer- application error

Starting in 'safe mode' - it goes through the routine of self diagnosis and repair but reports cannot be repaired.

Any suggestions on recovering this and keeping the user data.

Cheers,
Stephen

Dropbox may need reinstalling and I'm not sure if the AVGUAI is the AVG antivirus.

What happens when you boot into Safe Mode with Networking ?

This is usually done by tapping F8 as you switch on then use the cursor keys to select Safe Mode with Networking and then press enter where it will reboot to that mode.

In that mode all 3rd party programs are isolated which makes it easier to uninstall/reinstall programs - check to see if your wife is using the AVG antivirus program.

In Start/All programs, when you expand Dropbox and AVG they should have their own uninstallers.

To return to normal mode, just restart.
