Windows 10 64bit on hp
Trying the check disk tool at start up with repair option,
but is seems to be stuck at "drive C 10% complete"
so is this normal and is it still scanning and repairing or is it stuck?
if its stuck, how do I safely get out of the scan please?
Thank you, much appreciated
Hi and welcome to the forum but you should open your own thread when having problems.
To cancel the chkdsk press CTRL+c then enter exit to close the command window.
It does sound as though it has hit a problem even though it is just in read-only mode, but rather than tying your machine up with a chkdsk /f or /r download the 30 day Trial version of HDSentinel.
https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.phpUse the first of the Limited Trial versions and then you can uninstall it when done to stop the clock on it and then run it again as and when you want to use it.
This program will give a written report on the health and performance of any SSD/HDDs internal or external as fitted.
If either is below 100% then you should create a system image onto external media ASAP in preparation for complete failure, but let me know what it reports.
