tweaking.com windows repair freeware stuck on job 8
« on: March 09, 2018, 07:11:53 am »
I am using win 10 upgraded from win 7 on my HP all in one PC. First, I have used your win repair successfully a few times with great results. thank you. I am using  version (v4.0.14) I did all the pre-fix-it chores, sparse point repairs. check disk, backup reg, power reset, in safe mode, etc Reason I was running it this time was a corrupt Win 10 update that looped at startup (unable to install, undoing changes and starting over & over). I did try to fix this in windows help first It claims Fixed! but the update loop is still there.
Fix-it has been running and stuck on job 8 0f 45 overnight now, around 15 hrs.  This has never taken me longer than a few hrs before.
Last repair completed was Recycle Bin D:/ 15 hrs ago which is in system restore for win7.
CPU hasn't gone above 2.5 or so but is moving up & down. Process count went from 63 to 65 in those 15 hrs.
I can not reinstall Windows right now, we are in the middle of our Turbo Taxes and wife will kill me. I did reinstall them a couple of months ago. Nothing but trouble since upgrading from 7 to 10 back when it was free
Can I safely stop repairs and restore Reg. and how
Thank you for any advise and your time

Yes, you can stop the repairs and use Backup Tools - click on Restore under Registry Backup - Registry Restore then use the dropdown to select the back up then click on Restore Now.

Others have also complained about that repair taking a long time - did you also perform a sfc /scannow before the repairs ?

It may also be worth booting to the advanced boot options to select the Command Prompt and enter -

dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

exit

Then restart to see if the update still loops.

In the advanced boot options you can also select Restore Point to take you back to before you got the update.

After the reboot from that, open a Command Prompt (Admin) and copy & paste these cmds to the prompt - they will auto run except perhaps for the last one where you will need to press enter.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

Enter exit to close the cmd prompt.

These cmds will reset the update components and while they can sometimes resolve update problems, see what the update troubleshooter reports if it still won't install.

No - it's about tea time for me in the UK when I'll be doing my evening meal.

It's the MDAC repair and has been associated with Office.

If you have that installed then go Start - type appwiz.cpl and press enter.

In Programs and Features right click on Office and select Repair and then run the repair program again to see if it still gets stuck.

I'll pass this on to my Support to see if there's a known reason why it sticks.

I see i have old 2003 office and Office pro plus 2016, I assume it's the newer 2016 causing the problem, repairing both and trying tweaking fix again.
