Free Version Restore windows default file permissions
« on: January 23, 2018, 08:29:01 am »
I downloaded the free program to try and change all permissions on my new computer with windows 10. I ran the program and now 1 day and 19 hours later it’s still running. It shows on the system monitor that it is still running and the process count is up to 168 from 165 seven hours ago. Is this typical? How much longer will it take to finish? Can I end it without any negative effects?
Thanks

No, it shouldn't be running that long on the Permissions reset and not sure why when it's a new computer.

What exactly did you do to the computer that you had to run the repair program to reset those ?

Did you perform a chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow before running the repairs and are you running the program in Safe Mode with Networking ?

I was running into some situations where I had to change permissions and I thought this program would change them all at once. I didn't check anything. I am not in safe mode. I had no idea you had to do that. Can I safely end this program?
Thanks

Yes, I think that would be okay.

It could be your antivirus program that is slowing things up which is why it's advised to run the program in Safe Mode with Networking where all 3rd party programs are isolated.

There's a link on the program to Reboot to safe mode you can use (bottom right), so give it another try to see if it performs much quicker.

Well the power went out here while I was out and the computer did not have battery backup and shut down. Is there anything I should do when starting it?
Thank again for your help.

So are you going to run the repair program again in Safe Mode with Networking ?
