Microsoft Solitaire Collection
« on: December 05, 2017, 05:18:27 am »
When I click on Microsoft solitaire collection it starts loading then just "goes away".  I can do this over and over.  This occurred after I did an F8 tweaking com run thru.  Repeated this a couple of times, no help.
Should I try contacting Microsoft or can you help?
Win10 pro 64 1709
os build 1629998
tweakingcom pro

I've ran the repair program on my Win 10 and my Klondike still works fine.

I use Win 10 Home x64 1709 16299.64

Can you open the repair program and use it to boot into Safe Mode with Networking, open the repair program and use the Registry Restore option.

If you've run the program a few times then you will need to use the dropdown to select the earliest back up and then hit Restore now and see if that reinstates it.

Why did you need to run the repair program ?

Hi William - an update on this.

I've run 4.0.10 on my Win 10 laptop and have gotten the same problem as you.

I've passed this on along with a copy of the Error event in Event Viewer and hopefully Shane will be able to rectify whatever is causing this.

I didn't include all of the repairs, leaving out the App Store, Network, Recycle Bin, Snipping Tool, CD/DVD and Win 8/10 Component Store repairs.

Disappointingly the repair programs' registry restore did not reinstate Solitaire.

I have since opened a Command Prompt (Admin) and ran the following cmds, neither of which has reinstated Solitaire.

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

While I can easily restore mine as I created a system image before running WR, the next step would be to perform a repair install which doesn't affect your personal stuff or 3rd party programs, but will need install media for this.

It's too late for me to do this as it's about 11.30pm here in the UK and it takes a few hours to complete and I don't like leaving my laptop on overnight - so it will be a job for in the morning.

If you haven't already created install media, you can do at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 after reading the instructions as the steps differ depending upon whether you want to use a DVD or an USB.

When you have crested the media, open Windows Explorer - This PC and with the media inserted and recognised in its drive, double click on it.

If using a DVD this will start the process but if using an USB, that will open the files where you'll either need to double click on setup Application or right click on that and select Run as administrator.

There's initially a little user input but then it will get on and do its thing.

I normally Ethernet connect for this as hopefully it won't takes as long to download the updates during the process.

If you haven't performed a repair install then you can save yourself some time as it didn't reinstate Solitaire for me.

Thanks for the updates.
Had tried most.
MajorGeeks has a win7 group of games, which work fine.

Tweaking Com is great after you test stuff and "things go where ever"

I was surprised the repair install didn't do it but it has been passed onto Shane.

I'll leave mine as it is should Shane come up with something to try.

I found an article which showed how to reset and/or reinstall the Solitaire Collection but neither worked.

I've passed this on.

I didn't include the Apps or Store repairs in what I ran so they can be eliminated as the cause.

Update - this may also work for you.

I uninstalled 4.0.10 with the intention of installing 4.0.9 but all download links were for 4.0.10 but I still reinstalled using the link for 4.0.9

I left out the repairs for Network, CD/DVD, Snipping Tool, Windows 8/10 App Store, Windows 8/10 Component Store and Recycle Bin.

I tried Solitaire after the reboot and it started as if for the first time.

I'm not sure if this had been aided by the previous reinstall, although that didn't seem to have any effect as it still wouldn't load after doing that.

I followed the steps in this tutorial for that which you could do first as a belt 'n braces but when I went to the store, I didn't have to create a MS account or do anything that the article says to prevent a local user account from becoming a MS account.

http://www.intowindows.com/reinstall-microsoft-solitaire-collection-in-windows-10/

I've passed this on for Shane.

Hope this helps.

I restored with the system image I'd created prior to running 4.0.10 the first time to confirm if uninstalling and using a different download link was the solution.

To cut a long story short - it wasn't.

I restored with a later image, confirmed that Solitaire worked, ran WR which took out Solitaire, used the steps in that linked article to uninstall and reinstall the solitaire package and then ran WR again.

Unfortunately, Solitaire still isn't loading.

I'm not sure what went right for it to have fixed before but when it did load, it struggled a bit but got there.

It's now down to Shane to come up with a fix.

I have since tried 4.0.10 on an AMD based laptop and it didn't take out the collection but did on my other which is Intel based.

Not sure if that is significant.

Hello Boggin, is Winaero a legal source for the Solitaire games?

I don't know - I'm always wary of 3rd party websites.

Have you suffered the loss of the Solitaire Collection as well ?

The link I previously posted  http://www.intowindows.com/reinstall-microsoft-solitaire-collection-in-windows-10/  probably didn't work for me as WR may have taken it by unnatural means, although Shane hasn't been able to replicate it.

I am not into games as such but I did have the solitaire set just to have a break. The set has disappeared and I am wondering if the Fall Creator update did that. I did install the Winaero set on my wife's computer (I'm not daft!) and they are working ok.

No, it wasn't the FCU that took it out for me.

Had you run WR on the machine it was lost ?

A Google on Winaero would suggest that it's a long standing site of repute.

Hi Boggin, no, I do not have shortcuts to the individual games but I just happened to look and find them missing. On my wife's computer I installed Nexus Ultimate and have a games section that allows her to choose which game she wishes to play.

Well I suppose you could try that article to see if you can reinstall the Solitaire Collection.

I have Solitaire pinned to my taskbar - haven't a clue what those other games are in the Collection.
