Simple System Tweaker
« on: August 18, 2017, 09:15:42 am »
I recentley installed Simple System Tweaker 2.2 and when I opened it for the first time I noticed a lot of boxes have been checked. Are those items with the check marks default items or are they there just by chance? I just want to be sure before I go messing around and do something that will cause me trouble. I am using win 10 Home 64.   Thanks

Under the General section they are all default checked but not so with the other sections.

Note the default checked boxes at the bottom to apply all tweaks and when you create a restore point, go into System protection to check that it has actually created a restore point - otherwise create a manual one yourself before applying any tweaks.

- Simple System Tweaker is not meant for Windows 10. At least, it says so on the "Welcome" tab.
- Install Tweaking's Registry Backup (RB) v3.53. The System Tweaker program comes with version v3.51. Better to use the latest version. The tweaks are stored in the registry, that's why RB is so useful. If you want to reverse the changes/tweaks then use the "Restore" function of RB. Don't make System Restore Point.
- Keep us posted on whether or not tweaking your Win 10 system with this program makes Win 10 crash. I hope it doesn't but don't know.

@Boggin:
- Does Shane know if this program is suitable for Win 10 ?

On the download page it says it covers Win 10 - http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/simple_system_tweaker.html

Where do you see that it isn't ?

Why are you advising using RB over Windows own restore points ?

- System Restore Points can be a "Pain in the a**". Sometimes reversing changes using a System Restore Point simply won't work. It that regard RB is much better & more simple.
- See the message on the "Welcome" tab of Simple System Tweaker.
- Work to be done for Shane !!!!
- And when the program code is improved (to e.g. v2.21) then some other small things can be improved as well.

I'll have to log out while I install SST to check, but I've found Windows restore points to work okay in Safe Mode when they don't in normal mode because of interference usually by an AV program.

I see what you mean by the Welcome page and will pass it on.

I also see that that the program does a registry back up and not the restore points - so no need for RB - I'd misread that.

I ran SST using the General section and have not noticed any problems. I also use system restore and have never had a problem creating one or restoring one. I'll check out the other tabs and see what happens. Also a question; Is SST a maintenance program or do you use it to make your tweaks and then is not needed anymore?

Once you are satisfied with your tweaks then I guess you could leave it but keep it on hand should you want to change something.

@Willy2 - If you have anything you would like changed in any of the programs, open a thread in the Feedback section and I'll pass it on.

Please do not hijack someone's thread to air them.

- SST can disable the Windows Media and the Windows Search Services. But I know some programs needs those 2 Services to be enabled. Don't ask me which ...................
- E.g. by default Tweaking's Windows Repair (re-)enables the Windows Search Service.
- I assume other programs could change/reverse one or more settings as well. I don't know.
- In other words, it could (!!!) be useful to run SST every now and then.
