individual file scan , opens full scan menu in malware bytes?
« on: September 08, 2016, 01:49:50 am »
Hi,
Normally when you download a file and want it be scanned, it should only be scanning that file. The malware bytes, if i right click and select menu it opens the whole scan screen.
i tried umpteen times of uninstalling and re installing, nothing cured. If i opt for avast, it scans single file. Do any of you experience this phenomenon. What is the best fix.
i have asked the forum, and they asked me to uninstall and reinstall and some reg fix, The reg.fix worked one time, but again when i selected a file then it opens the whole scan, like updating, prescan, scan files, heuristic etc etc.
Is there any fix. I am using latest free malware bytes .
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Does it actually do a full scan?

For me it opens what looks like the normal full scan page, but then just scans the individual file/ folder that I have selected from the the right click context menu.

If you just want a single file scanned, then MSRT will do that for you without wondering how much more is being scanned or without any registry tweaks.

Hi, But when i right click and scan individual files, it opens normal scan, having so much rings . updating..prescan, all scan etc. What would be the reason. I have tried all sorts of uninstalling and reinstalling, but solution evades me still

Same here .... I've been seeing this for some time now , on several different systems , but for me it's not a biggie

My work-around :- close the full-scan window , right-click again on the desired object and it does what is expected.

I freely admit that I have no idea what is different on the second launch :)

At first I thought it was a service failing to start but I could not find any service associated with MBAM , only with MBAE

Did you use Malwarebytes Clean Uninstall Tool  to uninstall?

Hi, I used that tool to scan. I told MB team that there is some bug in that version. But they would not accept, as it is not happening to them.Just imagine one file scan take the whole time of you and also scan other files.

I tried the exe fix, file association fix in this page and now the problem appreared to be solved. But i will wait to confirm, for sure in two days after trying the right context menu. The link is here . It also contains so many file association fixes and the link is very useful

Hi, After log on today, i tried the tool, the first try pops up the normal scan screen. But second try ,onwards, it is working properly. So, could i assume that the problem lies in triggering the first time the mbam.exe. But Samson idea found to have worked for someone. But not for me. Again, i will try samson solution, and report back.
Is it possible that , it first option is always to update the data base, so would it be there the cause . When i click, if the mbam opens immediately the UAC, i am confidant of its working. But if it takes some more seconds, i am sure that the other screen is going to show and it is always.

I'm sorry to hear that this is still causing you so much trouble .

Until I read your OP I happily lived with right-clicking twice ( see my earlier post )

You may be on to something regarding the first launch forcing an update ( since last boot ).

One thing I have noticed is that I only ever have to "double-launch" the app the first  time I use it  ,
it then works perfectly until my next system boot .

It's a head-scratcher  :undecided:

Hi, Jethro,
Some time it takes three to four launches to get rid of this. What would you think that it would make this to happen. Even if i change the update settings, to not to look for updates, this behaviour continues.
So, it is not known whether it is a bug in the program. If i post all the context menu , in shellview, then disabled the programs that i do not want, also does not fix this.
When i right click to know the properties, the target is naturally to mbam.exe, but i could not find the right click menu in the program installation folder. Particularly this behaviour is annoying , as if one wants to scan individually downloaded file and tries this scan, if it loads the normal screen, just imagine the time it will take to go to that file. Even customizing scan is having only options of entire drive like c: and D etc.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Hi, One more clue, when correctly opens it opens, scan tab, whereas , if it opens not correctly, it opens dashboard. Would you please say , why?

Yes , what you are describing is what I observe also , but I can not offer any explanation for it.

Did you try the "clean install " tool that Samson suggested in Reply #5 above ?

I have tried so much times and even wrote the malware bytes forum. They say that there is no bug in their programs but only on my other programs settings . Then how it opens to dashborad instead of scan, is the key point of this problem.

Hi, i think i have solved the problem by disabling some context menu items running in the background. The disabled context menu is denoted by yes in the picture enclosed. Once, i have done, the first right click on malware bytes opens scan correctly.
I will wait for two more sessions to close this topic.

Hi, Jethro, You are correct, even disabling right context menu does not work.
The only workaround is opening the malwarebytes two times and you get the correct screen. So, the bug is clearly in the program which they are not accepting. Because, nobody would be using the right click menu , for individual scan, this has not been escalated issue so far. I think, but have raised the issue, and they would not accept.
Let us be happy with two double clicks, one click to get the normal menu and the other time to get to scan individual files
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".
