Use Option 5 to restore the registry to see if it resolves and I will pass this on.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin) and enter sfc /scannow to see what that reports.

After using Tweaking repair tool  sfc work not :-/ C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
WTF  :undecided:

Go Start - Settings - Recovery - Restart now - Troubleshoot PC and select Command Prompt then enter -

bcdedit |find "osdevice"

Enter chkdsk x: /f where x is the partition letter and see what that reports.

That's a Pipe symbol before find and is the upper case of \

Okay, let me know when you get it done.

Look for any KBs in bad sectors in its report as well as any repairs it may have made.

Enter exit to close the command window then click on Continue to boot Win 10.

It may be that because of Win 10's updates, the apps are broken and the get apps command the program uses to repair those has exasperated that.

This happened after the Nov. 2015 Threshold2 update and Shane took out that command until Microsoft had fixed it - took them about 7 months.

Your problem regarding the apps has been passed onto Shane to determine if this is the case again.

Which version of Win 10 are you using ?

Prior to the Anniversary Upgrade (AU) it was 10586.545 but after the upgrade this became 14393.10

To determine which you are using, go start - type winver and press enter.

Did you upgrade this machine to Win 10 or is it a new one which came with Win 10 preinstalled ?

If you upgraded it prior to the AU, did you create a Win 10 install disk/USB ?

You can create one now but the current install includes the AU and that has caused problems with webcams for a lot but not all.

Depending upon which version you have, but you could still do an upgrade/repair install by using the Media Creation Tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 and clicking on the Download tool now button to create a bootable DVD or USB.

This is how to do that with pics - http://wccftech.com/create-bootable-windows-10-dvd/

To do a repair install, boot up Win 10 - open Windows Explorer - This PC - stick either the disk or USB in and if AutoPlay doesn't come up, just double click on the drive which has the ESD install and it pretty much does it itself, but when it prompts to check for updates, click on the button for not now where it will do them later anyway.

What was your original reason for running Windows Repair ?

Most home users don't need to password their machines unless it is to keep other family members out and a forgotten password can cause all sorts of heaps of trouble, but glad the reinstall sorted things for you.

You haven't said why you needed to run Windows Repair ?

Using WR may have complicated matters then.

The only true defence against Ransomware is an external system image as once your files have been encrypted then they usually lost unless you pay up.

Unfortunately many don't bother to back up.
