Hi, my printer does not print . Whenever i insert the printer usb as a check, Usb malfunctioned and does not recognize message would popup. I will try to update the drivers, but it will say, driver is upto date.
I thought of replacing the device with a new printer cable usb.
Still , the same message does popup.
as the power to the printer comes, i thing that there is no problem with the power adapter, attached to the printer. How to get rid of it .
Moreover, when i went to printers page, it shows, the device is ready and online.
How to know the unknown device? Is it printer or some other things. But whenever i try to print, the print job would not finish. I had to use stalled printer repair to clear the spool files pending there. Is there any clue . Today, i changed the printer cable and when tried to plugging out and plug in then the usb malfunctioned popups again.

hi Please see the status
Did you see a kind of life without any thick status of printer. It is as if it exists without life.

When you get an unknown device it's usually because of missing/partly missing drivers or corrupt drivers.

I think I would be tempted to uninstall and reinstall the printer, but have you checked Event Viewer to see if the Print Spooler or any other related errors are recorded.

For it to start printing and then stop, have you cleared the Print Queue as something may be getting jammed up in there for some reason.

Can you go into Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices/Non-Plug and Play Drivers to check for any yellow alerts.

Hi,
What about the second reply? where i enclosed the status in png. Is it not printer? Or some other devices  pl I checked the print queue and it is empty. If a job is given, it is pending , as the printer is not printing anything.
I remove these entries with stalled printer repair program to clear the spool cache

Hi, yes , it says problem with pnp device, but i could not go any further. Would it be printer itself? how to check. I have looked in to it. Other than this unknown device, there is no yellow marked device in non plug and play drivers.
How to know the device name?

Hi, Boggins,
Will the device be other than the printer? Should i unplug all the usb devices like mouse, keyboard to know which device is troubling me.
When i unplug and plugging back, i get the usb device malfunctioned and so i assume that it is the device. Is there a chance that the device is some other.
What my staus diagram tells. It seems normal, i could hear the printer inner parts moving with sound. I thought this is because of the power plug.
how to cure this? There is no specific hardware id and it is usb\unkown. how to find it?
did not you notice the lifeless printer icon in my enclosure

Yes I had noticed the unmarked printer icon.

When you get the page set up prior to printing, at the top will list which printer it's going to use.

What do you have listed ?

I've attached what mine shows.

As you can see from my Devices and Printers, I have two - that's because my printer is wireless so I have to make the Network one the default.

Are you getting an Unknown Device in Device Manager ?

Why then the printer is showing as if it has lost the blood  in .
It is interesting that keyboard is shown as unknown device. But it is working properly. How it is shown. Also see that port0001 and hub0006 is shown as not connected which is shown as problematic device in msinfo32.
Could you suggest some solution for this . How key board is shown as unknown. It is working properly.

It's listing it as Unknown because it doesn't know the manufacturer - nothing to worry about.

I was asking if there were any Unknown Devices listed in Device Manager....

Hi, yes with error code 43. Boggin, how come that so much entries are found when barely few have been plugged in usb ports. Besides, mouse, and keyboard , nothing is plugged at present. Once, they would have had bluetooth, canon scan etc etc..
The port 0001hub0006 is the only problematic device shown in device manager.
It is having error code 43, windows stopped this device due to problem. How to find whether it is printer or some other?

Hi jraju!

If you have a laptop, have you tried to unplug the power cord, then take out the battery, unplug all usb devices, leave it alone for a minute or two and then replug the power cord and then the battery.  Turn the computer on and restart as normal. Replug in your usb devices.

Have you tried the USB Cable to another available USB port? And then restart the computer and the printer after that try the installation again.

Have you tried to reset the printer?
You can read more here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02266743

Resetting the printer resets any USB connections between the printer and computer.

1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
5. Wait at least 60 seconds.
6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
7.Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the
carriage might move.
9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before
you proceed.

Have you tried Microsoft fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

In Device Manager and Unknown Device, where you have the message (Code 43) click on the Driver tab and select Uninstall then click on Action/Scan for hardware changes.

This should reinstall the driver.

Hi, Boggin
When i uninstall and opt for scan for hardware change, the unknown device comes back as usual

Then it has to be a driver installation problem.

You can either go to the printer support site for the drivers or uninstall the printer and reinstall.

Hi,
When i test self printer , by  moving and closing he lid four times, by pressing the on switch , it prints the page with out any fail. Then what is the problem.
If it is driver related, the OS driver , included in the  OS, should have been corrutped. How to get this driver. But when troubleshooting, this shows as the best driver suitable to the system. So, is there chance of registry related issue. The power part is ok. But when the usb printer cable is connected , i get this malfuntion error.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Yes, with old one and the new one. The same result.
Moreover , the other one is xp, and there is no alert in system tray about the unknown device. But the printer was not responding.
Even tried full version of HP, Fatal error without denoting the error.
Normally when we try to update a driver , it is searching in windows updates.
If there is no driver, it checks the preconfigured folder for drivers first.
If i prefer to delete the printer driver from preconfigured folder, would it automatically install the drivers? If the driver is defective, then will it show it as correct driver?
The self test passes and so the printer is working. Ok.
But the joint of connection, between the usb cable and socket on the back of printer, will it be the causes or it is purely driver related
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

It's difficult to tell - what does the connection feel like ?

Does Event Viewer have any recorded errors for it.

What told you that you had the most up to date drivers for the printer - they are always best downloaded from the vendor's support site.

The fact that the printer does work until you plug in the USB cable would suggest that it's physical thing and perhaps the printer would need the attention of a tech - btw - how do you know the printer works without plugging the cable in ?

Without going back through your thread, I assume you have tried different USB ports ?

I don't have my printer installed on this laptop just yet as I'm in the middle of reinstalling bits and pieces following a factory reset, but have you checked the Printer properties/Port to see which port it is using when printing and what does it show when you plug in the USB cable.

I'm talking about the ports when you right click on the printer in Devices and Printers and select Printer properties.

Hi, Boggins, there is a self test print in HP. If you place a paper while connecting both power and usb print cables, and just open and close the lid of the printer four times, by pressing the on switch on the printer, it self test and print a paper. This process was successful and i came to the conclusion that printer is printing. But the communication data cable usb is having some problem in connection. Hence i asked you , whether the possibility of any loosen or broken and bending of some inner parts in the joint of usb cable and printer.
I enclose what port says in the enclosure
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Mine defaults to a card reader Epson Network Print port, but mine is a wireless printer, although I could have set it up to just use USB had my computer not had wireless capability.

So are there micro switches in the lid ?

As I don't know your machine, I don't know the significance of the lid - not a requirement on my Epson.

Under the General tab of the Printer properties there is a Print Test Page option.

Can you try that with the USB cable attached and without going through the lid procedure to see if it prints - while it's trying that or when it previously fails, see if giving the USB plug at the rear of the printer a waggle to see if it elicits a response.
