That is an Access Denied error and I'm not sure if it is related to the recent update or a continuation from when Threshold2 broke the ability to download apps.

Shane has removed the repair for those in Win 10 because it exasperated the situation.

Restoring to before that update may resolve, but Windows Repair will reset the Permissions - else have a look at this article to see if it will help -

If the following cmds done from a Command Prompt (Admin) don't help either, then you'll probably have to do a Refresh.

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

That one can appear to hang at 20% but will complete, then do a sfc /scannow to see if it reports any errors it is unable to fix.

If it does then run SFCFix.exe which will give a more concise report.

What did the other scans report ?

Switch the machine off - remove all power sources then hold the power button in for about 30 secs then download and run SFCFix.exe again.

This program needs the CBS log from a sfc /scannow to work with.

This is the output of the commands you told me to run before that program.

I'm not sure what that bit about logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios means.

Have you tried SFCFix.exe again after the cold boot ?

If it still fails then from a Command Prompt (Admin) see if this cmd will put an icon onto the Desktop which when double clicked would open the CBS Log into Notepad which you can then copy & paste into the reply box or zip it up and attach it.

This cmd works fine in Win 7 but not sure about Win 10.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This cmd produces a cut down version of the CBS Log, just showing what it has and cannot repair.

You can copy & paste the cmd to the cmd prompt to avoid any typos if you want.

With Win 7 you can boot up with a comparable Win 7 SP1 install disk and perform an offboot sfc /scannow where the volume is checked against the install disk, but I don't know if that is possible with Win 10 as I don't think it has the same Recovery Environment as Win 7 has to select the x:>sources> cmd prompt.

I've just bought a Win 10 book but haven't had a chance to read any of it yet and as it's quite thick - I'd probably have to trawl through it to see if it has any alternatives to this.

I was hoping it may have been something simple :D

See if SFCFix.ex will run, but looking at the corruption in that log, I would say that you are looking at a Refresh, but see what this cmd reports -

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth

This will tell you if the volume is repairable or not and if it says not then you are definitely looking at one of the Refresh methods - at least Win 10 gives you the option to reset without losing your personal stuff.

I didn't expect it to return that message with all of that corruption.

Can you try SFCFix.exe again to see what that reports.

Same message as before. Maybe it doesn't support newest Insider builds? Wierd thing is that installed apps from Store do work (Mail, Calendar, etc). The one I found crashing when launching is Facebook for example. But I can't update or download any new. Other than that, the system seems to be just fine. I did some repairs before with tweaking.com tool but that didn't help.

Also, SFCfix.txt from desktop:

Code: [Select]
SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.

Microsoft Windows 10 Insider Fast, Build 14328 (Updates Deferred) - amd64
Not using a script file.

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro has encountered an unhandled exception.

I've asked Shane to have a look at this for you, although I don't know when he'll get back as he is well behind with the work from his computer business.

EDIT - Can you run the Pre-Scan in Option 2 of Windows Repair.

Thank you so much! It seems like an non-critical error that could be fixable but I've tried many solutions from the net and none helped.

Edit: just saw your edit, will do in a second.

Attached now.

How are you getting on ?

No one else seems to be having problems with downloading apps when logged in with a MS account, but they probably don't have a CBS Log like you.

Can you run the Reparse Point Repair and then redo the Pre-Scan to see if it comes up clean then do a chkdsk /f to see what it makes of the files sfc /scannow was unable to repair.

To view the full chkdsk report, go into Event Viewer and when it has read the data, expand Windows Logs then click on the name Application/Action/Find and in the Find box type chkdsk or wininit and press enter.

Cancel the Find box to read the report in the scrollable window.

You can copy & paste its output if it is substantial in any repairs or error messages by clicking on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane then paste into the reply box.

Have you been logged in with your MS account when trying to download any apps ?

Starting from the bottom question, yes, I'm logged in with my MS account. I tried to relog and also without being logged in but no change.

Attaching logs of Repair and another Pre-Scan. Will post chkdsk results later when I wake up.

That reparse point could be your local user account - are you able to log in with your local user account.

The pre-Scan snags an user account for me in Win 7 but it is an account that Norton put there and so far there aren't any answers from them into how to remove it - but I don't get the same warning about it as you do for yours.

I'll be going to bed for the night shortly myself.

I was thinking of suggesting creating another account but that wouldn't address why this one should give so much trouble.

There may be a problem with FB and this update, but in the new account, can you check to see if a sfc /scannow still finds all of those errors.

Yes, that command resulted in same output as before. Gosh, I hate how Microsoft comes up with some stupid error codes 0xmillion instead of saying where the problem is... Why not say "file x has wrong permissions" if that error code means that.

So are you still getting the access denied error when downloading anything or is the problem still just with FB ?

It's possible that could be a bug of this latest update if that is all that is failing.

I've learned that MS servers were down yesterday but your problem predates that.

Getting error 0x8007005 when installing/updating any app. There's no post on Reddit about this problem and MS support didn't even bother to reply, so I guess it's just me, not build's fault.
