AIO Repairs Failing to Start
« on: January 09, 2016, 09:32:39 pm »
Realized I posted a similar topic in the wrong thread.

Trying to repair an HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium that was originally upgraded from VISTA Home Premium.

Tried disabling Kaspersky but that did not even allow the repairs to start.  Any help would be appreciated.

What exactly is the problem and is WR still failing to start in Safe Mode with Networking ?

Run a command prompt as an administrator and see what a chkdsk /f or a sfc /scannow has to report.

Is this machine a 32 or 64 bit system and Desktop or laptop ?

HP support seems to have some decent diagnostics if it is hardware related.

Laptop:  HP Pavilion dv4
OS:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (not a fresh install; upgraded from VISTA Home Premium x64)

AIO repairs fail to start in safe mode with and without networking enabled.

Check Disk states nothing is wrong / error free, even the /r switch returned no errors
SFC /scannow states no integrity violations found

The initial issue was the person stated that they could not get Firefox working; java error.  Was able to get FireFox working after AIO repairs failed to start.  This is the first time I have experienced the repairs failing to start.  Does not matter which repair.  Went as far as trying each individual repair alone to see if any single one would start to no avail.  Also tried uninstalling Kaspersky Internet Security and removing all traces of it from the hard drive and registry.  The repairs refuse to start.  Activated the built in Administrator account and tried running it under it to see if it was an issue with their account.  Banging my head against a wall on this one.

Does Event Viewer have any corresponding time stamped errors ?

Most of the repairs run under the system account, to do that the program runs an exe from the files folder that runs as a service to start the repairs, if it isnt able to install the service they wont run.

After you try running the repairs go check the event viewer and see if there is anything recorded about it and let me know.
