Sleep Mode - Query
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:47:25 pm »
My Wife's Computer Fails to stay in sleep mode - just waking from sleep like an insomniac and at random times even failing to sleep at all some nights
- mind you she does leave tons of pages open in Mozilla and things on VLC on pause etc.
- hoping that the Simple tweaking network tweaks with media services may resolve this
- maybe 1 day ill take a look at the logs and see what is actually happening.

But... Main reason for this post
- applied the same tweaks on my computer (my pc has always slept nicely) but it also vanished from the network
- so in the morning my pc was not listed in the network like it used to be
- I have not timed the event to see if it vanishes after 4 hours

I know I can always access my wife's even when it does finally go into sleep mode was always available
- Ive yet to restart her PC since tweaks and see if it vanishes if/when it sleeps of if it improves her PC with its insomnia

Is there a specific setting - in relation to this I'm suspecting... # Keep Positive Entries in DNS Cache For 4 Hours Instead of 24 Hours - would this be the culprit in my case?

Just wanting some input before I go barking up the wrong tree and get frustrated with a fine tweaking product.

None of the tweaks mess with sleep.

What it sounds like is a program is keeping the system to stay out of sleep mode. When it does go into sleep mode any of the tasks in the task scheduler are normally set to bring the system out of sleep to run the task, that might be where you find why it keeps coming out of sleep.

As for your system not showing on the network during sleep. That is what is normally suppose to happen. Sleep mode is where everything shuts down to a low power state. Hibernate is simply a more advance version where everything in memory is store to the drive and its dang near off.

You can set the network card int he device manager to not power down during sleep. That might keep it on the network during sleep mode

Thanks Shane for your prompt reply

Was Probably either Java Update or Bonjour Services keeping my wife's computer from going into standby/sleep
- both were in the scheduler and both listing in early hours of the morning in event log

I had fun at a friends with Tweak installed on a fresh Windows 7 and started getting Blue screens
- As it turned out it was not tweak but crappy on board Network card running MS driver
- updated to provider latest network driver all seems stable
- dodgy ASRock mini intel boards

I had done a Registry backup from tweak but it failed to restore any files it created - ran as instructed
- I did have restore points to use
- sorry I didn't take note of the errors I think it was file path issues?

How did you try to do the restore of the reg backup program, it should have created a log in the same backup folder of the restore. See if it has any errors in it.

Simple System Tweaker v1.1.2

Dam really sorry Shame I'm just opening a can of worms here and making your busy life more hectic

Clicked on Restore Registry
- box prompts user to run ERDNT.exe in the Reg_Backup dir...
OK opens Reg_Backup folder containing the back up directory files
opened dated folder and run erdnt.exe

Hmm the program notes this is for NT/2000/XP   (no Win 7 Listed) I am using Windows 7 32 bit
- No Registry Entries Found
- Then it tries to restore files from a F: drive (from memory I tried a dual boot like ages ago and failed)
- Then Current Registry File Not Found are the remaining errors

The same Current Registry File Not Found errors occurred on My friends PC when trying to Restore a reg backup

To be honest I'm not really fussed about the backed not working as I have system restore points and do backups of my important files
- and there are other programs I can use if I want to backup the registry

It does create backup files with no apparent issues
However that is 2 Windows 7 home computers with different configurations that failed to restore so there might be a problem there

Could not identify a .log file...

File lists:
BCD
DEFAULT
ERDNT.CON
ERDNT.EXE
ERDNT.INI
ERDNTDOS.LOC
ERDNTWIN.LOC
SAM
SECURITY
SOFTWARE
SYSTEM

Contents of ERDNT.INI - appears to be closest thing to a log

Ah you used Erunt.

I will be replacing Erunt in mall my programs with my own Registry Backup that I just finished.
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/registry_backup.html

I am not sure why you had trouble with Erunt, but let me know if you have better luck with my backup.

I am just giving it time for any updates before I put it in the other programs. Such as v1.2.0 was a big update :-)

I used Erunt as it was the option included in the tweaking program
- just doesn't work for me (I'm not concerned at all about it)

Does this tweak program scan the registry for the applied settings or just log selected applied settings?
Just does not show any applied settings or that the selected options are actually active

IE tick/untick a few things then Exit with out applying
Reopen the tweak - ...

I just want to be correctly informed about what tweaks are in effect.
Or have your just designed the program as a quick apply these recommended tweaks - since this is the simple tweak version I'm using?

Thanks for a great program so far Shane keep up the good work - loving the interface and simplicity

No it doesn't scan for them.

Exactly. Open, run and reboot. All done.
