« on: July 01, 2015, 03:39:58 am »

It gives this error code 80070002.
It says most recent check for updates: never
Updates were installed: never

I can't start a sfc/scannow with command promt. This is also not possible in safemode.

I used the windows repair tool and got this:

Did you make sure to run all the repairs and to run them all in safe mode?

Also v3.2.3 is out :-)

Looks like according to microsoft it means some files are missing for Windows updates
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/910336

Can you see if any of the steps there helps? If so then I can add them to the repairs :-)

I love this error... no worries though first off we need to get sfc /scannow Working. Can you post me a screen shot of what it tells you when you try sfc /scannow

Option 2 is if you have a bootable Windows disk. You can use this method http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/run-sfc-offline-windows-7-vista/

I need to see a copy of the sfc scan log because i feel you may  have corruption. And i want to see if the scan repairs most of it and then ill hunt down the rest.

Can you boot up into the advanced boot options, select Safe Mode and try the sfc /scannow again.

If you get the same error then enter chkdsk c:

This is a read only mode but will recommend any remedial action if volume errors are found, but will also show if any KBs in bad sectors.

I am curious if this will help, if it does I need to get it added to the repairs :-)

Download the attached file and extract it, run the bat file and it should clear out the cat database, once it is done reboot and it should start to rebuild, you wont see anything.

Give it a few min to maybe even 30 min and then see if things are any better.

Try these commands, but it may also have problems with the catroot2 folder when you have already tried to rename it, but see how it goes although Shane's batch file may also include these cmds.

The SoftwareDistribution cmds will remove the update history.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

Then enter exit to close the cmd window and reboot.

If the forum allows you to copy & paste text then you can paste the cmds at the cmd prompt.

They are a general WU fix but it depends on what is causing the problem.

Are BITS and the other services showing as started now after running Shane's program ?

If you are able to run a command prompt as an admin, enter net user administrator /active:yes then enter exit to close the cmd window and reboot.

This enables the hidden admin account and you will see an Admin icon on the desktop which you use to log in with.

After it has sorted out the desktop, try the WUs first and if they still fail, open a command prompt - not sure if you still have to right click on it to run it as an admin but do that and see if a sfc /scannow will execute.

If it does and reports files that it is unable to repair, enter findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This will put an icon onto the desktop which when double clicked will open the CBS Log in Notepad which you can then copy & paste into the reply box.

To disable the hidden admin account change the active:yes to active:no

Hello; have you run combo fix?
if not and not sure if you should! let me tell you you should, because even if you re-install, the problem won't go away!

after you run combo fix; re-install windows using the upgrade feature from the install disk!
* takes some time, but I always found it is better set all the thing back to normal?

In your case, I would normally copy the install disk to another drive, click on install and use the upgrade feature; it will save all your programs and existing documents...

Why so drastic measure; first, it isn't and who knows what your system is doing :)

If after upgrade still don't work and in some cases it WON'T; its another issue entirely...

I think it's wrong to advise using ComboFix because if it snags a file and you don't know what it is and have it delete that file, you could do your system some harm.

There's obviously something very wrong when the hidden admin is unable to run a command prompt.

Try this ESET.exe - it reinstates services normally taken out by an infection, but I think given the number of files showing as deleted that it would be best if you backed up your personal stuff and factory reset.

Boggin; I like your remark here; however; is there a way he can post his current services settings without sending him someplace to make unnecessary changes?
is it better to look at what is happening than make more problems? some other programs maybe have them set to where they need to function, we can not know all the programs he has...

I would; try these two files in this order;

Run each one separately from ADM account;

Then Download the new update agent for your/his version;
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/949104

Another tool one might try using;
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-fix-windows-updates-with-fix-wu-utility

still not working?
He/she is most likely using a un-licensed version!
