windows explorer - right click on a folder or drive windows explorer closes.
Running windows 8, I have followed the instructions, completed each step in tweaking.com windows repair ver2.8.1 twice.  Also have run malware bytes which states all malware has been removed.  If I right click on any network share or folder on the left side of windows explorer, windows explorer closes.

Hi,
Try the nirsoft free program and do as per the instructions in the link below
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-8/slow-right-click-context-menu/

I hope that this issue arises because of unwanted third party program menu present in the right click.(context menu). Just try it to remove the items in the context menu
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

I installed 'shexview_setup.exe' (ShellExView v1.90) and disabled the following;
    Extension name                                       Company                                Type
1. Botkind Sync Shell Extension                  not given                             context menu
2. iTunes                                                     Apple Inc.                             System
3. RealNetworks Download and Record      Real Downloader                  Browser Helper
4. RealOne Player Context Menu Class       Real Networks, Inc.              Context Menu
5. Real Search                                             Real Networks, Inc.              Search Handler
6. Shell Converter Class                              Online Media Technologies  Context Menu
7. WinOptimizerContextHandler                  TODO: <Company name>    Context Menu
8. Microsoft XPS Rich Preview Handler         not provided                        Preview Handler
see attached file - 'disabled shell ext. - all'

the remaining shell extensions are labeled as 'Microsoft Corporation, Adobe Systems, Inc., Apple Inc., Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Dropbox, Inc., Google, NVIDIA Corp., Adobe Systems., Alexander Roshal (WinRAR), WinZip Computing, which I did NOT disable.

restarted windows explorer - issue remains unresolved

v2.8.4 is out, you should always use the newest version since I am normally always fixing things or improving repairs :-)

However, on this, when you right click on anything in Windows it creates the menu. That menu is pulled from the registry where it reads what items to show. 3rd party programs can put their stuff there which is normally loaded by a dll file.

Well, when one of those dll files used to draw that programs menu items has a problem it will crash explorer. So the best thing to do is to disable ALL the right click menu options and then if or when it stops crashing you start enabling one by one until you find the one that is causing the crash.

Also check the event viewer and see if the crash is there, if it is see if it shows what the faulting module was. That could help use if it shows the name of the dll file.

Shane, thank you for your response.  To confirm what you suggest I should do.

1. d/l and install ver 2.8.4 of tweaking.com
then
2. disable ALL right click menu options.
question??
How do I determine which of the many items are "right click" menu options?
I will not be at that computer for 24 hours.

Hi, The programs that you do not want in right clicking . Like third party programs, which you could easily access with desktop short cut.
normal default menu normally contains copy paste edit new etc and may contain more. It is specific to the selection of item as per the os settings. For example, a third party menu like hp,canon, if any thing that is not performing action, but executable type, you could delete those. If there are problems in those short cuts, this will affect the windows explorer setting causing it to close unexpectedly.
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Hi, Shane, It is strange that Real player occupies the context menu. It should not be . Normally  it contains only  window commands like copy, paste , cut,  eetc.. I think that he could dismiss all others. They could be executed thro programs short cut.
