Do you have a restore point back to when this was working - it may be because of something you have installed or because of an infection.

A scan with a robust antimalware scanner may be worthwhile.

You could boot into Safe Mode with Networking and use the ESET Free Online Scanner - https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

A sfc /scannow run from the Command Prompt may restore the file but when running that cmd in XP you could be prompted to insert a XP CD as the system may not have all of the i386 files to replace from.

If you don't have a XP CD then you could create install media from - https://softsfreak.com/download-windows-xp-sp3-bootable-iso.html

I would advise running an antimalware scan on this ISO before proceeding with it though.

You can do this with the MSRT - go Start - Run and type mrt and press enter where you will see the file scan option.

Hi, thank you for your advice, the problem is that my XP is walking on his last legs, I already use ESET Smart Security, I also tried Zemana, Malwarebytes etc. but the problem still exist, sfc /scannow doesn't work anymore. I think the best way is to buy a repair CD for XP and go from there because the problems are too big.
But thanks again with thinking with me.

How do you mean "sfc /scannow doesn't work anymore" ?

Are you getting error messages ?

If you can get hold of a XP CD then you can boot up with it and select R for the Recovery Console and open Command Prompt.

At the prompt enter bcdedit |find "osdevice"

This will give you a partition letter.

For clarity, that is a Pipe symbol before find and is the uppercase of \

Enter this next cmd using that partition letter instead of the X I have exampled -

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=X:\ /offwindir=X:\Windows

and that will scan and repair as necessary comparing with the XP CD.

Okay - don't forget to let me know how you get on.

You didn't say why sfc /scannow no longer works.

It still ask for the CD, so I did a trick I get from the internet, I downloaded XP sp3 and stored the I368 folder on the C:/ and changed something in the registry...but still nothing.
Of course, I lett you know if I have results with the XP CD.

You're doing fine with the language.

We have another member on here from Holland who goes by the username of Lady.

Yes, I remember him from the World's Strongest Man competitions shown on the tv.

These are the steps to do a repair install but you will need to enter a product key.

However, the COA sticker key may or not validate the install where it is an OEM key on a branded machine.

Because of this I would advise creating a system image and the means to recover from it first if you want to try this route, although the offboot sfc /scannow may resolve.
