Windows 10 start and Apps refuses to work on i7-3770K processor
« on: January 31, 2016, 04:36:32 am »
So I had a PC; i5-3330 on B75 MB which was running Windows 10 since Beta. I then decided to upgrade to an i7-3770K after which the boot device was not found; so i did a clean install of Windows 10 Ent x64. Started installing drivers, devices, etc and then after a reboot the Start menu stopped working, and progressively less and less apps. Numerous reinstalls, upgrade attempts from windows 7 and windows 8/8.1 I decided something between MB and CPU does not like Windows 10. So I decided to sell the MB and replaced it with an H61 Gigabyte MB. Windows 7 works fine on the setup so last night decided to install Windows 10; From the first bootup the start menu and apps do not work. I have done all the steps/suggestions from your site and some other sites aswell but nothing. I am expecting a Z77 board tomorrow to use with this processor but it seems that something with this processor just doesn't work with windows 10. Please help me sort this out; if any additional info required I can provide.

Make sure you check for any bios updates, also do a memory test as well. While you put the new cpu in it is always possible that something could have gone bad, like the memory. it does happen lol

Weak power supplies can do it as well. But first thing is the bios update, bios updates normally add support for more and newer cpus if they are able, so always good to make sure you have the newest.

Ok definitely, I did do a BIOS update on previous board. I will revert back as soon as I have the Z77 board and attempted Windows 10 install on there. I have already done a wipe(low-level) on my SSD in preparation; so will do BIOS aswell to be sure. I will also download a fresh install of Windows 10 be ensure that is up to date/doesn't have any files missing either. I will do install without any additional devices initially and then add GPU, etc after.
