making backup bootable
« on: May 25, 2015, 09:57:10 am »
i am trying to clone my system to a new machine, the hardware is identical. Using a backup and restore tool i was able to mirror my C: drive to the new machine but it is not bootable. What additional step do I need to do to make this happen?

I use norton ghost for cloning (The only norton program I use lol), there are some other ones out there as well, free ones. But the trick to cloning the drive is to also clone the master boot record and the boot sectors, something ghost does really well.

Sounds like the program you used copied the data but didnt do the master boot record and so it wont boot.
