Hi,
When i insert a dvd rw i get 2 options either to use as usb or dvd. I normally choose the second option as i was little confused with usb menu while inserting rw dvd.
If i select the second option, would i be able to use copy the files and then deleting as normally allowable in rw dvds. There is a bit of confusing regarding mastered format and other. I heard that mastered format does not allow you to use once written on the dvd. I.e, you cannot use it as usb. am i correct . the main purpose of writable dvd is to erase the unwanted and recopy the wanted. Would anybody clear my doubt. What should i choose.
I had the udf format 2.0 in my rw dvd, which i erased and formated to change it as cd . It shows the total bytes of 4.7 gb . But can i use this as usb erasing and copying whenever i like and as long the dvd life is ok
The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

Not sure on that one, unless you simply have the auto run set to offer that option on the dvd-rw. There is a way to control what options are offered based on what is inserted.

It is in the control panel under the autoplay settings. There you will see the settings that are offered for putting in a blank dvd. You can set a default if you like. Most likely what happened is some program added that option to it as that isnt a normal option for USB with a dvd. I dont know off the top of my head where the location is at but I think the list of items it shows in the registry.

Hi, Shane thanks for the reply. But what is the default format of dvd rw. What is the diff between dvd +rw and dvd -rw. I do not mean the option of autoplay. I have in the first instance has written  a flv file with image recorder software. It auto changes the format to udf, which now i erased to format it. But i do not know the format of default dvd rw, so that i could use the dvd as read and write, which has delete or erase option.
But when i pressed the dvd drive button, i got the message, that the media is processing my request and it took some minutes to eject the dvd. Now the udf format gone, and full space is shown. Which format if attempted would allow the rw function. Normally dvd are not formatted in udf, but it was in that format because of image recorder program. It chooses its own format and speed while writing image or files to disc. I forgot the exact name, it starts with image.

I dont use dvd-rws anymore as I use thumb drives instead, so I am not sure. But I do know that even the dvd-rw do use the UDF format

Mine does this. It allows a DVD rw to act like usb flash drive.
