SFC & DISM Failure win 8.1 x64

Hey Guys,

I recovered my HDD from a crash and cloned it to a good Hard drive and so far managed to get almost everything working smoothly without any major loss BUT...

I am having issue with SFC /Scannow  and  DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
not being able to iron out the issues after multiple runs offline and online scans

I have reinstalled many of the applications , I have removed and re-added .net, installed and uninstalled SQL server ,

anyhow what is holding me up here? how can I fix these..

Did you do this command before the restore health one?

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Perhaps using Windows Refresh option would resolve those problems http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

If you are prompted for an install disk but don't have one and have a product key, you can download the ISO from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media and use http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool to create a bootable USB/DVD.

It was originally designed for Win 7 but will work for Win 8/8.1

The only problem with product keys and machines that came pre-installed with Win 8/8.1 is that they were written into the ROM so you won't have a sticker to get it from - in which case you will need to contact MS as the first article advises.

yes done that and got error
error 14098   I think it was


I doubt fresh install will fix these orphan files that are left over.. they are not bothering me enough to want to re-install my apps again

I have no problem with win 8.1 ISO, Key, USB installation etc.

I did a similar thing with a customers machine a couple of weeks ago, but it was with windows 7. I had odd problems and errors, so once done I did a repair install instead (So I wouldnt need to reinstall all his software) and that did the trick.

There is a way to do a repair install without losing your programs

Huh.. so that is the trick for the repair installation.. run the setup from inside the current windows..
alright I will do a checkdisk overnight and repair install and report back..

Repair installed win 8.1 x64 from inside windows > Ran DISM and SFC again all issues were fixed
did windows clean up (over 25GB of disk space reclaimed) , updated few drivers , re installed DFX audio enhancer >  Windows update gave an error
Ran ifixit form microsoft to fix win update issues > restart   and all is well now

my windows on this laptop is enterprise edition and did not ask for any activation but I did back up my activation with a program I found online just in case. there are programs that can show you your installed key if needed for pro
