I don't know that program so can't advise on it but prior to trying the unknown, I would always create a system image first, but first let's try some of Windows own repair tools.

Windows has its own update troubleshooter which you can find by clicking on the Start button - Settings cog - Update & Security - Troubleshoot then click on the one for Windows Update.

Others are as follows -

Right click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Powershell (Admin) and enter these cmds and then see if the update will install.

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

That one can take a while to run.

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

The last one will tell you if there is any remaining corruption or not.

If the sfc comes back clean and the update still gives you an error message then copy & paste these cmds to the cmd prompt where they will auto run except perhaps for the last one where you will need to press enter.

These cmds reset the update components and while they will remove the update history, they will not effect already installed updates.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

Close off the cmd prompt or Powershell window by entering exit, reboot and try the update again.

Another cause of this WD update error code is because of what you could have installed, so if you still have problems then see if a clean boot will resolve.

Right click in the task bar and select Task Manager.

If this is the first time you've accessed Task Manager in Win 10 then you will be presented with a blank window - click on More details bottom left where the pane will then populate.

Under the Start-up tab disable all items, click on File/Exit then on the desktop in the search box type msconfig and press enter when System Configuration comes up.

Under the Services tab check the box to Hide all Microsoft services then click on Apply - OK - Restart and then see if it has resolved.

To restore the non-MS sevices, go back into msconfig and check the button for normal startup which will require a reboot to effect, but if you get the error code again with subsequent updates and disabling all non-MS services resolves, you will need to go back into msconfig, disable them again and after the reboot enable just one of those at a time to see which one is causing the problem and leave that one unchecked.

Generally you don't need any items enabled under Start-up in Task Manager.

Microsoft haven't come up with a solution yet as to why this occurs so I would be distrustful of any 3rd party program which in all likelihood will be a paid for program which could do more harm than good.

My instincts about them were right then.

Another program to avoid like the plague is Reimage.

Your leading O should be a 0 (zero), it ought to make searching a little easier. MS has a basic troubleshooter for some Windows Updates problems, it includes this one and was updated a couple of weeks ago: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors

I tend to see DCOM errors on mine but just ignore them as they don't seem to cause any adverse effects.

What did the update troubleshooter report ?

See if you can direct download using the appropriate link in this article - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/definitions

I'm not sure if turning off Real Time Protection in WD would help but you could give it a try while you try the download again, either from Windows Update or that direct link.

Click on the Windows button - Settings cog - Update & Security - Windows Defender and toggle off Real Time Protection.

You will have seen when you Googled the problem that there is a history for this problem, so there will probably be others experiencing it.

The alternative is to use a 3rd party antivirus program - free or paid for.

Bitdefender has a free version but when I trialed it, it seemed slow to start on boot up where it should have been checking the boot sequence.

Avast Free is another which has a good rep and is used by many but Shane doesn't like it, although he hasn't said why.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that :)

I think I would be tempted to perform a repair install which doesn't affect personal stuff or installed programs.

This takes 3 - 4hrs on my Win 10 machines plus the time taken to create the Win 10 install media.

You've tried everything else which should have resolved, but you could contact Microsoft Support - but decline any paid for help - problems with updates are supposed to be free.

If you want to try the repair install you can create Win 10 install media after reading the instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

It's slightly different for DVDs and USBs.

When you've created the install media, with the machine started, open Windows Explorer - click on This PC - insert the install media and double click on its drive.

This will start the process if using a DVD but will open to the files when using an USB where you would then double click on setup Application.

It may default some apps - sometimes I have to open IE to put it's icon back on the taskbar, reinstall my Win 7 wireless driver over the Win 10 one of 31 March 2016 and set the Realtek HD Audio Manager back up.

As MS pulled the 1809 feature update, I would have thought they would have also reverted the MCT to 1803 - but glad to see that you are now sorted :)

I think I would forget about Windows Defender and install a 3rd party antivirus program as I've already suggested.

You've already tried what should have fixed update problems, but this WD update error seems to be an ongoing problem.

You could try a repair install which may or not resolve but it won't affect your personal stuff or installed programs.

I believe the current MCT has the ISO for 1809 which could cause other problems and MS had pulled that feature update, but you would need Win 10 install media for a repair install.

Read the instructions first as the procedure differs depending upon whether you are creating a bootable DVD or USB.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

I'm not sure if that would put 1809 onto your machine as it does look for updates during the process.

If you do decide to go that route, then I'd create a system image first.
