Window 7 32 bit update locked out my NAS and printer
« on: May 30, 2018, 11:05:14 am »
Hi - This is a machine I had in "mothballs" for a while.  I performed all the updates and they seemed to go well.  Before the last update, I had a printer connected by USB and my MAS connected by cat 6 through my NetGear router.

But, now those are no longer accessible.  I have attached an image which describes the situation.
What could be wrong here?

The pic is too small to make out any detail.

The Teredo error may be coincidental but go into Device Manager by going Start - type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

Click on View/Show hidden devices and check to see if you have a yellow alert next to Teredo Tuneling.

If you have, follow these steps to reinstate it -

1. As an administrator from the Cmd Prompt, type then press Enter after each of these commands :-

2. netsh

3. int teredo

4. set state disabled

5. Open Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices > right click on Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface and select Uninstall

6. Open the  Cmd Prompt as an administrator again and type then Enter these cmds :-

7. netsh

8. int ipv6

9. set teredo client

10. Open Device Manager/Action/Scan for new hardware.

11. Then select Show hidden devices from the View menu.

It should now display without the yellow alert.

What security programs do you have installed ?

If those steps don't resolve the router problem then I would suggest disconnecting the printer and NAS cables and rebooting the router to see if they will then reconnect.

Thanks, Boggin.  I did all that and even rebooted my router after disconnecting my printer and cat6 and rebooting machine,

No change,  Also the Telredo has disappeared from the  device manager list.

Thsis is one thing I forgot to mention before.  Something I have never seen on this machine ATTACHED.

Again - the pic details are too small to make out what it says.

For the missing Teredo, go into Device Manager/View/Show hidden devices then click on Action/Add legacy hardware - Next - Next - Next - scroll down to and click on Network adapters - Next - Microsoft - click on Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter - Next - Next - where it will install.

This is a variant on the original but should resolve.

If you get a Code 10 error for that device, follow the steps in this article which should put the original one back on. - https://www.wintips.org/teredo-tunneling-device-cannot-start-code-10-fix/

However, to confirm if it was the Windows update that was responsible, use your restore points to go back to before it was installed to see if the NAS and printer are back to normal and if you still get the error message about Teredo Tunneling.

OK, this procedure put back the Teredo.
I ran the software, so now I can delete it?
I will use restore point now.

What are you doing with ASC ????

What do you want to delete ?

If you restore then you will lose what you have just done but check in Device Manager to see if Teredo Tunnelong is as it should be after the restore.

Boggin, that came up when I went to your link.
So, my mistake, I guess; I will delete this software.
Toledo is now back.
I am doing a resore point, but have to run chkdsk/R on reboot  first; now working.
Will keep you posted.

I'm not sure how you got ASC installed from that link.

Howdy Boggin.  I do not know about ASC.

Anyway restoring the point from the last Windows Update did the trick for the NAS.  Now connected to all NAS.

But the Teredo still has a code 10 and I can not print.

I checked Windows updates and now see that that last update was KB3177467.   So, I guess I should justshould never apply that one.

Should I restore another checkpoint to see it another restoreing to the day before will fix the teredo and the printer?

Printer says it is rec3eiving data (on the printer display led) but nothing is printing.

You could try another restore point but I'm not sure that Teredo has anything to do with the printer, but it could restore back to before whatever had caused it.

OK, Boggin.  I tried the next restore point and 33 updates were un-installed.  Printer still not working and Telerdo still code 10.

So, I am reinstalling these 33.

Perhaps you'll need to redo those steps to reinstate Teredo and then reinstall the printer.

Boggin, I do not understand.

I AM reinstalling the 33.

I never heard of Teredo before.

Where can I get it.  How do I reinstall a printer?  Do you mean use the Brother software?

Go back to the link for the steps to reinstate Teredo.

The second post in this thread explains what Teredo Tunneling is for and while it may not be needed at the moment, if it has a yellow alert on it, then it needs repairing.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/537181/what-does-the-microsoft-teredo-tunneling-adapter-do-and-is-it-useful/

Yes, you would need the Brother software to reinstall the printer.
