Bug running Windows Repair in silent mode [Solved]
« on: March 12, 2016, 01:20:25 pm »
Hi,

Apparently there's a bug while running Windows Repair with the "-silent" argument: it stops in the repair nº 7 "Repair Internet Explorer" (never finishes)

Tested in Windows 7 and XP.

I'm gonna test the bug to see if i can reproduce it if so i'll let Shane know and see if he can reproduce this as well. then he will be able to pin point this and figure what is happening in the code.

Hi,

i have seen it with the portable version.

For the test i used Windows 7 x32, launched CMD as administrator, and executed "Repair_Windows.exe -silent".

I all goes fine until the repair nº 7 "Repair Internet Explorer", where the repair never ends.

The same happens in Windows XP. In Windows 10 x64 it runs ok.

Maybe it only happens with 32 bits versions of Windows?

Hi,

i've just run it from a elevated CMD with the "-silent" argument.

Apparently the  common factor is that it will stop at repair nº 7 (Repair Internet Explorer), when using a x32 Windows edition.

Please try this, in Windows 7 x32:
- download and extract the portable version of Windows Repair;
- run CMD as administrator (right click, "run as administrator");
- navigate to Windows Repair directory through CMD;
- run "Repair_Windows.exe -silent"

Thanks for the follow up!

Hi,

i think found what was the problem.

When i run "Windows_Repair.exe -silent" through cmd, normally i'll leave that cmd windows opened.

Windows Repair will stop in the repair nº 7, if i leave the cmd window that i used to execute "Windows_Repair.exe -silent" opened.

If i close it after i run the command (or even when it's stopped in the repair nº 7), everything works fine, and Windows Repair runs will until the end.

Thanks!
