Windows Repair and non English versions of Windows
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:37:45 am »
Shane

I have tried to use WRv1.75 on a PC running Vista Home Premium in French to get rid of the nested "Application Data" folders but it hasn't worked. I found the logs (Thanks) but can't see any reference to it having found and rectified problems in the c:\users directory in the Windows_Repair_Log .

There are a couple of errors in Windows_Repair_Windows_Log where it says c:\windows\*.*:administrators 1337 ID Security Structure not valid (my translation) current object c:\windows\*.* will not be processed, am not sure if this gives any clues

I ran the program as admin and as the default user who has admin rights

For info I have also tried running Junction Box (with the code added for French) but that didn't help

Should the Program be able to work on non English versions of Windows ?

TIA

Steve

Program should work fine on non English versions of Windows.

The permissions tool my program uses doesnt support *

So c:\windows\*.* would give that error, same as setting permissions in the registry. So this is a normal error I see with it.

On your Windows drive you should see "Tweaking.com_Windows_Repair_Logs" which will have more detailed logs. We can see if those show anything.

get rid of the nested "Application Data" folder

Can you explain on that a little more and what your trying to do?

The PC I am looking at has 12+ levels of nested "Application Data" folders nested under C:\users\username\ according to Avast BART PE that it won't let me delete when I try to get rid of uneccessary files to speed up anti malware / virus scans.  It isn't stopping the PC working but I am worried that it may be slowing the PC down.

That is suppose to be there. It is linked to the new appdata folder. If you try to open it it should block you. If it doesn't then it would be an infinite loop

When they did vista and 7 they changed the default locations under the profiles. To make sure old programs work they have the old locations there. But they are linked to the new paths. :cheesy:
