Hi,
Can Somebody please help to fix several problems on my Vista PC?

I cannot open "Device Manager", "Computer Management" ,"Services", "Microsoft Management Console",  - I get an error message saying "Class not Registered"

I cannot create a "System Restore Point", or "Restore" to Previous Restore Point using "System Restore".
I get an Error Message 0x8004231F Insufficient Space and problem with Shadow Copy Service.
(Please see attached snapshot).

I have tried your various Repairs _ separately and the "All-in-One", I have also scanned my system with 2 Virus Scanners, for viruses, not finding any, but still I have these problems.

Hard Drive - 6.3Gb Used and 161Gb Free, Vista SP2

I would very much appreciate your help to resolve these problems

When you ran my repair tool, did you run all the repairs? And did you make sure to run them in normal mode and not in Windows safe mode?

Hi, Tried again using your "All in One" - Got to Step 3, and at 54% got this message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation". Please Restart, Press any Key.

Any suggestions to what's next to try?

Close everything that you can before running the repairs. Go to step 4 to start the repairs and do them all.

Hi Shane,
Followed all your instructions - shutdown all programs, including virus and firewall and disconnected from internet.
Unfortunately the problems I have are still are still the same!

Any other ideas? Would much appreciate your help to fix this.

The problems appear to be caused by the responses I get "Class not Regisered" when I try to look "Device Manager or any of the Administration Tools.

Can you send me the logs that the windows repair made?

They will be on the root of the C: drive :-)

The class not registered should have got fixed. But if something was blocking any of the repairs the logs should tell me

OK I noticed the firewall service couldn't start. Viruses like to take that out.

But first lets see if we can at least get system restore working.

First we need to clear out any old snapshots of the volume shadow copy.

Open a command window and put in

Vssadmin delete shadows

Let me know what it says, if it says it cleared them out then try the system restore again

Hi,
Tried Vssadmin but the format was wrong. So tried the options as listed in SnapShot "Snap022".
I tried each option and then took SnapShots of the results for you to see.
I have not used the option to resize - Waiting for your suggestions.

I did retry "All in One" again after first using "AutoRuns" program to disable as much as I could.
But all results are the same. All the Administration tools respond with "Class not Registered".
System Restore still does not work, and still get Error 0x8004231F.

Ah vista doesnt have the delete command.

I have attached to vss files for vista from my reg backup tool.

one is for 32 bit and the other 64 bit. Run which ever one your system is in a command window with the -da

That should remove those shadow copies for you

Hi,
Done that and when I checked System Restore there were no restore point dates listed.
I did a reboot and tried to create a Restore Point, but got the same Error 0x8004231F as originally.
I have also retried the system Administration Tools and still get Class no Registered!

Please, I am really hoping you can help further,

Hi,
Just tried SFC Stopped at 54% See Attached Snap.

Also, Looking at Registry with "Registry Workshop" program, there are a lot of entried reference "Volume" etc.

Is there any point in sending an exported copy of Registry?

No need to send the reg.

The fact that the SFC cant complete and the class not registered should have been fixed from my repairs, multiple other problems as well tells me what ever is going on is deep in the system.

The best thing to do is a repair install. This will aloow you to keep all your programs and settings while getting Windows reinstalled.

Hi
I have managed to get System Restore to work again after finding an old restore point.

The Management Console is still not working with the error "Class not Registered". Which of course is the same result if I try any other of the Administration tools.

I have found an UltraBoot CD I created on my Vista PC in 2010. On it there is a Folder "i386" which appears to have MMC Files. My question - is it possible you can name the files associated with mmc, so I could maybe copy these to my Advent PC and get them registered with Regsvr32?

My Advent PC is an OEM installation and I do not have any installation CD - but there is a protected drive/partition labelled "S".

Would appreciate any further help you can give

It seems that your problems are all in the registry.

"Class not Registered" means that a dll something is looking for doesnt have its info in the reg.

When you register a dll or ocx file it writes its data to the registry. But since my reapir tool already does this then it means that either permissions are messed up in the reg (Which again my repair should take care of) or something is wrong the the dll file itself.

Open a cmd window and put this in

regsvr32 mmcndmgr.dll

Do you get an error or does it say it succeeded?

Hi Shane,
Just did a search in the registry and found these results using "Registry Workshop".

I have noticed that the "Value" for the listed "Keys" had an"f!" in front of the mmcndmgr.dll filename.

Could that be the problem - that the filename is wrong?

Explains why my repairs program didnt fix it.

Something is really screwed up in the system.

System file checker cant complete and files wont register.

If you want this system to work again you are going to need to do a repair install first (If it doesn't work then a fresh reinstall is the last option)
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

When we cant even run the repairs we need to fix it then we need to rebuild it.

What you need to do is get a copy of the vista cd off the net. You don't need a cracked one, just a good copy of vista.

When you do the repair install you will use the cd key that came with the system.

This will let Vista rebuild itself and hopefully fix everything that is going on.

If you need help finding a copy shot me an email. I dont want to post any links on here as that isnt the goal of my site :-)

Hi Shane,
I am very grateful for the help and advice you have given.
IF I manage to fix this PC I wont chuck it out the window.

I do have an oringinal purchased copy of XP Pro - What are your thoughts on replacing Vista - at least I have the original Installation CD?

Best Regards and many thanks for your support

I like XP over vista, but like Windows 7 over both.

If you install XP it will have to be a fresh install.

Which means backing up your data, formatting the drive and installing fresh.

Make sure you have at least the network card drivers for XP on that machine downloaded and saved so it can get on the net after
