That is a great find!

Can you tell me the exact folders? I want to look into those and see what exactly is lost when those are renamed or removed, if it is safe to remove those then I want to add it to the repair IE in my windows repair program :-)

The folders I renamed/removed were:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
The only thing it was affected that I had to replace manually was my desktop background.  I'm not quite sure how that's linked to Internet Explorer but it appears to be because when I rebooted after doing this my background was just plain black.

Lots of sub folders in those, I just have to research and make sure nothing important is lost, like stored passwords, certs and things like that.

I'm certainly not sure about passwords, I don't store any in IE.  That obviously could be a problem for some users.

The only things I've found so far that were missing and I had to reinstall were the desktop background picture and the pinned links to my start menu and taskbar.  All of which are very easy to reinstall.  I'm not sure why they are linked to Internet Explorer but then again we are talking about Microsoft.

hmm did you ever right click on a picture within internet explorer while browsing on the internet?

sounds like a cached .jpg background
