When doing the image backup to my blank D drive I see (at the beginning - before I start) that the window says that programs will not be backed up.

Yet, on MS site it says "Back up your programs, system settings, and files" at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Back-up-your-programs-system-settings-and-files.

Any know from direct experience?  Thanks.

I never use MS backup.

A backup is nothing more than a copy, and so I like to keep it simple.

For myself and what I put on all my customers machines is the free version of FBackup.
http://www.fbackup.com/

Does a nice copy and paste type of backups so I can easily get to the files I need from it instead of going through a whole mess of steps.

Thanks, Shane.  So good to get this.  years ago I purchased GFI Backup and it was solid - file level, simple, incremental options --- the greatest little program for my files that do not go to my replicated server.  I still use it and now it is free and has been for a few years.
GFI itself and main products:
http://www.gfi.com/downloads
GFI backup:
http://gfi-backup.en.softonic.com/
I do not know exactly where the direct from GFI backup is as have not updated in years.
But, GREAT product in addition to the one you mentioned.

My quest, however, is not for a simple backup.  I am wanting to image backup my system to bring it into a new box under VirtualBox.  I am looking at several and will report back here when I find the best one for me.
