Context Menu
« on: April 21, 2013, 06:39:58 pm »
I'm having a problem that I've never encountered before. When using a context menu, doesn't matter which or where I get a "ghost" of the item I clicked on. By ghost I mean the text on the menu entry I click on stays on the screen. The only way to get rid of it is to reboot, or it's the only way I've found so far. I'm getting ready to get this machine to the doctor for an in depth physical. Just thought I'd try here first. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Tnx,
Dusty

Try this and let me know if it works.

When you see the ghost part of it left over, right click on a clear spot of the desktop and in the menu choose refresh. Does it go away after?

Hi, Dustyvan,

Try the instructions in this link after downloading nirsoft software

The Bottom line is "Check your hardware first if it supports the task you try".

It might be worth using that program and removing any menu items you dont need. One of them might be causing the problem

Since some can have icons loaded with it I could see where it isnt unloading properly and leaving the ghost.

Actually, I think it may be a remnant of some infection. A few weeks ago I got hit with a blitz attack. I spent a couple of evenings removing infections including a nasty rootkit. I thought I'd done a pretty good job but the system just isn't the same. Besides that "ghost" issue there's also some wait-states happening and it just doesn't feel right. I was hoping to get rid of the ghosting issue so I could use the machine for a few more weeks before turning it in (like waiting for payday <grin>) But, I guess the old credit card is gonna get some exercise soon.
Tnx again,
Dusty

PS. I love your all-in-one program. So far it's saved me hours.

Have you thought about trying a repair install?

What version of Windows are you on?

Windows 7 64bit installed on an Intel SSD drive

I've thought about that a few times but I don't have a Win 7 install disk. I don't know why I guess the shop that built it for me didn't give me one. I'll call on Monday. The place I bring it to is not the one that built it.
