Tweaking.com Support & Help / System Error: DLL initialization routine failed
« Last post by rvail317 on August 10, 2023, 09:55:56 am »
On Windows 11, am getting this error when attempting to start "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair".
Note: no other software programs are reporting errors. Running SFC /scannow found no system errors.
Also tried uninstalling and then re-installing the "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair" software, but that made no improvement.

Feedback & Suggestions / Envelope printer 2.0.1
« Last post by SteveB on July 11, 2023, 08:51:03 am »
Greetings.  This is a very handy program that I have been using for quite some time.

When printing envelopes from the program, it would be useful to have the ability to set the number of copies, rather than submitting a number of print jobs by repeated clicking the 'print' button.

Thanks for considering this suggestion.

General Computer Support / Privilege required to alter registry
« Last post by Sebastian42 on June 26, 2023, 12:24:55 am »
In seeking to edit the x32Win10ProV22H2 registry, at every turn I am prevented by lack of privilege. So I searched in Google and found the following : "To GRANT ALL privileges to a user, allowing that user full control over a specific database, use the following syntax: mysql> GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON database_name.* TO 'username'@'localhost'; With that command, we've told MySQL to : GRANT the PRIVILEGES of type ALL (thus everything of course)." Does this apply to Registry ? and if so, I'd like help with substituting for 'username' and 'localhost' as well as WHERE do I type 'mysql etc" ? If it does not apply to registry, how can I get the privilege required to merge an edited registry hive ?

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Several questions regarding Registry backup
« Last post by John Terdik on June 25, 2023, 12:26:44 pm »
I just upgraded Tweaking.com Registry Backup to v4.0.0 on my Win10 desktop, previously I had v1.x installed. Getting the latest installed was surprisingly a difficult task for me. When I checked the website for the latest version I noticed that v4.0.0 was available. It seems that there is no automatic check to inform me that there is a newer version (sorry dumb user here). I downloaded the latest and attempted to install but it failed because
Quote
The following file is in use and can not be updated:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Tweaking.com\Registry
Backup\files\Backup_Failed_Message.exe
Close all other applications and choose Retry. Choose Cancel to install this file on reboot.
In Process Explorer I attempted to find the app but was not successful so I rebooted. I was then able to upgrade to v4.

BTW - I just attempted to insert an image (it would be super if I could just paste the image from my clipboard to the forum). When I click on the "Insert Image" icon I see some HTML code appear in the window but don't know what to do next. I attempted to find help on inserting images but was not successful.

I then attempted to run the registry backup. It had problems with the Volume Shadow and used the fallback method. Using the fallback it did run but reported "Errors! 27/30 Registry Files Backed up".

Looking at the backup window I see three selections highlighted. It seems obvious (to me) that these are items that were not backup. OK, now I know what was not backed up but I don't know what the heck to do about it.

Looking at the log I see "Volume Shadow Copy Failed! vss_7_8_2008_2012_64.exe isn't running. Check the Log_VSS.txt file to view any errors." However I cannot find the Log_VSS.txt file when I click on "View Logs". So I used the search application "Everything" to find "Log_VSS.txt" and find it in one of the earlier backups. Following is the contents of that file

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[06/25/2023 - 13:17:49]

C:\>
---------------------------------

I see the line "Please re-run VSHADOW.EXE with the /tracing option to get more details", I opened a CMD window as "admin" and pasted VSHADOW.EXE /tracing" into the window and pressed the enter key. It reports:

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19045.3086] (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:\WINDOWS\system32>
C:\WINDOWS\system32>VSHADOW.EXE /tracing
'VSHADOW.EXE' is not recognized as an internal or external command operable program or batch file.
:\WINDOWS\system32>

Using Everything I searched for "VSHADOW.EXE" and could not find any entries.

I searched the internet for volume shadow and see that it is part of wiindows, this leaves me totally confused.

Back to the Registry window:
It would be nice if I could resize the window and see everything without scrolling. Just a nit and not super important, just more friendly.

When I click on the View Logs button I go to "C:\RegBackup\S4\06.25.2023_14.13.25" (S4 is the name of my PC, e.g. System 4). This seems to be totally different than I see in the video. To me, this is confusing. By default the app stores my backups and logs at "C:\RegBackup\S4\"

When I click on the Restore Registry tab the window is empty.
When I use my explorer app I see that I have 25 backups. I was expecting to see 30 backups. In the app settings the "Keep" was set to 30 (I just changed it to 60) and the "Delete Old" setting was 60 and I set it 120. The real question here is "Why does not the app see my backups"? Is this a dumb user error? Have I done something wrong?

Sorry to be so dense but I'm easily confused. I'm open for suggestions.

System Configuration data: Asus ProArt Z690 Creator WiFi; Asus RTX 3080; Be quiet Dark Power Pro 12 (1200w); Trident Z5 DDR5-5600 16GBx4; Intel i9-12900KF; Asus Ryujin II AIO cooler; Sabrent NVMe M.2 Rocket 4.0 2TB drive (os); Corsair NVMe M.2 Gen3x4 8TB drive (user); Win11Pro (note: os and os-user files were originally installed on two different drives (per Kari's tutorial) for reasons related to the content creation purpose for this computer). There are additional drives on this computer but it seems unnecessary to mention them as they are unlikely to be germane to the current problem.

I have been working with my newly (and finally) built DAVW (re)installing the plethora of content related programs, vsts, samples, etc. after having stress tested it for several days initially. Everything was running just fine until sometime overnight last Thursday. I left the computer busy downloading another installment of needed programs only to return to find the download apps were running but nothing whatever was actually downloading. Yet, I had internet connectivity and was able to download several small files and transfer files to/from the NAS. I decided a reboot was in order and closed everything and attempted to do so. Then I got the dreaded kmode error. No specific file mentioned Worse, it is looping such that I simply cannot actually get to Windows at all, not even safe mode works. I can get a command prompt window via the automatic repair functions. I do not have any reason to believe there are any hardware issues causing the problem and I can access the UEFI.

I extensively researched this via the internet (or, at least, attempted to do so). Most write-ups suggest this is a very easy problem to solve but they seem to assume that one can get to a working version of Windows. That doesn't apply here since I seem to be looping through the error-diagnosis-automated repair without being able to start Windows itself. I can only access the command prompt window and, of all the various 'sure-fire' fixes offered, none of them works as specified. I'm not an inexperienced but neither am I an expert so my ability to navigate and execute programs through the command prompt is a bit dodgy. If I am reading things right, the worst case scenario is having to reinstall the OS (I purchased a copy for this box so I have the original USB from MS) but I DO NOT want to lose the six weeks of downloading/installing (and I'm only about 25% into the reinstall of music/video apps) if I can possibly help it. Worse, I don't know if a 'safe' (read: nondestructive) OS reinstall can be done with the divided os/user drives configuration I prefer.

I am hoping there are a simple set of command prompt instructions that can be implemented so I can get Windows working and proceed to the discovery of what caused the problem in the first place. If someone can point me to know working solutions to this problem and/or walk me through them, I would appreciate it.
