Hey, here is a good comparison chart: http://tpucdn.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GT_520/images/perfrel.gif
GT 610 is re-branded GT 520 with the same performance, and g210 is slower than the HD 5450. So you'll probably get about 50% performance upgrade. Note that these are all htpc media cards, not real gaming cards. As you can see there are 1000% more powerfull cards out there! :)

I was looking for this card: HD 7750 - Review. It probably could run on your 300w psu too (consumes 10w more watts than gt 520 on max), and it's a lot faster. You can compare its performance to HD 5770 in the first chart, so it's like 400% faster than GT 520. It is the best card currently by performance per watt. Of course it's little bit pricy but offers good performance for it's value.

If you are afraid of conflicts or other possible problems, see: How safe is MyDefrag? It remains as safe as it is now, until Microsoft changes the Windows Defragmentation API so that it will become incompatible. It has also been tested by the community,  including me, on windows 8 and it has been confirmed fully functioning.

As what it comes to the support of free product, the developer's latest answer is from 21th of this August. He hasn't abandoned the forums, and there are still active forum members helping each other, even though the forums are under spam bots. It is very sad that there hasn't been any updates or new features, nor confirmation if he will continue developing it further, but nothing stops from using the fully functioning program. It is not food that gets bad after a certain date!  ;D

I simply haven't found any alternatives to MyDefrag. It is that good and unique disk defragmenter. I once used a commercial one called Ultimate Defrag. It was close to MyDefrag but its features were very restricted, and it had many problems and bugs and no support at all. It had new update just lately, it was very easy to know this after the ten email update offers. The new version only came with some minor GUI changes plus renamed functions, and with the same bugs. It was very unpleasant experience with a commercial product for me.

If you are interested comparing the defragmenters, look this very well detailed test: The Big XP Defragmenter Test I like the conclusion of it, even the standard windows defragmenter functions quite well and in some situations is enough to be used.

Have you ever considered to use an external drive to save a part of your data?
Disabling page file because of the full disk space is not a great idea.
Good point!

The laptop is quite old with only 60gb hdd, and I always fill it with files. I'll see if I get somewhere an external disk to attache to it.

Pretty hard for me trusting a software completely abandoned for 2 years.
By the way, I use Auslogics Disk Defrag (free):
http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/#features
Trust?  :o Why wouldn't you?

I've never seen such a well documented program as MyDefrag. Everything what it does and how it does are all documented, and told openly to users. There are no advertising speeches, like "this is the best ever defragmenter in the world" and "it makes your system 600% faster!" This is just how I pick the programs which to trust, the amount of documentation and advertising. No fooling of users.

I installed it (the monthly optimize) and it does purge system restore, I just created a new one. It seems to do a pretty good job. I'll keep it for now. Thanks for turning me on to this  ;)

Chris
Glad you liked it! MyDefrag is highly customizable. You could automate the new restore point creation with a .vbs script and use the RunProgram setting at the end of the script, bit too technical though! :)

Yes,

sometimes it may do that like other defragmenters. Here is more detailed description on MyDefrag's FAQ:  http://www.mydefrag.com/FAQUsing-WhyDoIHaveMoreDiskspaceAfterRunningMyDefrag.html

What could be the worst scenario of having the page file disabled?

I'm thinking disabling it too on my laptop. It's for light tasks with 3gb memory, and the total memory usage is around 400mb right from the start up. I think it should be plenty enough without the page file.

The laptop is really slow because the hdd is so full and slow..

Adblock plus doesn't block cookies, only ads ;) Ghostery might block some "malware" cookies if I remember right.

I use Cookie Controller addon myself which can be used to allow a certain site to set cookies by its toolbar button, and the default behavior for cookies is set to disabled.

I can now allow only those few sites, like these forums, to set cookies!

The yellow highlighting on autoruns means that the files for the startup entry does not exist. See the Image Path column closely. They are some old left over entries after driver or application removal.

You are safe to disable them or even remove the entries.

Everything Else / Re: pc on or off
« on: May 29, 2012, 01:22:52 pm »
it is the heat more than anything that will wear out a system faster.

Interesting! Explains a lot why good cooling systems are popular :)

hmm maybe I'll try to set the folding program to use only 60% or less on my cpu or gpu, that it would then produce less heat. My gpu runs super hot if at max usage, but it's quite cool with less work on it. Idle temps are at 43C. But I would never leave it to do it for 24/7 only during day time while I'm at home or using my pc. Then the raise in the power consumption wouldn't be high either as the computer would be still on.

I think the sleep, stand by mode is good solution if the computer is left unused more than 1h or more.

About that article what you think about folding? People often leave their pc to fold (use their computer's computing power for scientific research) which means that their cpu, gpu or both are running at 100% load at all the time. How much this might decrease the lifespan of the pc? I have considered doing this and already tried it for a while but I don't like to have a broken pc in near future because of this. The electric bill is the other drawback. :D

On amd's site 400w psu is recommended for that card. But yet again it's just the safe recommendation.

Did you try the psu calculator that I linked? It should give you the theoretical minimum wattage output recommendation for your specs. So if you don't have your cpu overclocked, multiple usb devices, fans, hdds you should be ok. But as Shane said using psu its max output will decrease its lifespan, which could lead to a broken psu and in the worst scenario broken psu could broke the other pc parts.

According to the PSU calculator power need difference for the nvidia geforce 210 and for the hd 6670 is around 30watts. Is this ~30w increase too much or not, I can't say. You can only take the risk and test it. I think many shops will accept returns if you say my psu couldn't handle it.

Edit: And don't pay for the 30$ extra job for them to let them put it in, it's 50% of that card's value! Unless you really want to have the advantage to plain them if it doesn't work!  :cheesy:

Edit2: And you could get quite good new psu for that money! ;)

Look back of the computer where the power cable goes to the power unit, there should be a sticker where it reads the model number and wattage output. If it's not there look inside the case and check the side of the psu. The model name is sometimes enough too. On mine it reads TX650 on the back, which is a 650 watt psu.

Every gpu has different power requirements and how many power connectors it needs (pins and all..). Check the system requirements on manufacture's web site for the card you are buying.

e.g. Sapphire HD 6850 requires only one 75 Watt 6-pin power connector, and 500w psu is recommended as safe to use, but it could work on 400w too. It depends lot about your other specs and if overclocking.

there is also a psu calculator for doing the maths ;)
http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If you play with high res monitor then it's really important to have more vram at least 1gb, which is the "standard" today for vram and every game should work on it. More vram is needed if you use those fancy 3D or multiple monitors.

Here's some game play videos of BF3 with your cpu: (note that they both have a weaker gpu than e.g. the hd6850)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiFhm2IE_SQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLXaWM7GZ8I

Here is also some thread about your cpu and BF3
http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2832654624708978918/

You should be able to run it decently with at least on medium/high settings with HD 6850, depends on the resolution used.

First take a look at this gpu value comparison list.
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/273502-GPU-Value-Comparisons

Second before buying a new card always make sure that your PSU can handle it. (Most of the new cards need also two or more  power connectors)

Third don't forget that BF3 needs a good cpu as well like many of the other new games. Upgrading only gpu won't always give enough perfomance to run the game smoothly.

If you have really low end cpu save the money and buy a whole new pc later on. Otherwise go for the cheapest card you can find(hd6850,hd6870,gtx560ti) with enough power to run the latest games with your cpu.

Here's the BF3 System requirements. It should give you the idea of what specs it needs for minimum and for highish settings:

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Advanced System Tweaker

Posting here,

Just noticed after updating to the latest AST that I have these new folders "Remove Functions, Repair Functions and Restore Functions" in the main view. All tweaks in them are for win xp. Did you forgot to put them under the "Windows XP only" folder? :)

It only happens if the list is open so maybe disallow to open it while in add-on creator as it isn't needed there.

Weird.. It happens also if I let the drive list open and then if I try to select other label/button.

Ah.. it seems to only happen when I try to drag it with the part of the blue square which is under the "Drive selection" label. Might be bit too rare to happen, though. But can you reproduce it?

I tried it with new drive list and I doesn't happen me either.. It only jumps small step. But here is the tweak code with the drive list which triggers it for me.

Code: [Select]
[create_controls_start]
drivebox(drive1|1833|2078|1593)
radio(radio5|1788|1638|1833|398|False|Drive selection:)
[create_controls_end]

Keep it well organized so users can easily find what tweaks they want to use. Browsing trough all the 1000 tweaks just to find one would be too difficult. Example if the user couldn't remember some tweak's name.

Also the new "Tweaks have been run" counter doubles if I use the "reload add-ons" function. The number of enabled tweaks sums again to the total.

One other "bug" that I encountered was in the addon creator when I opened a drive list and while it was opened I tried  to drag it around using the blue square. It immediately disappeared somewhere really far away :D When I tried to do the same again it also crashed the add-on creator.

Edit: The counter seems to reset after starting the program again. So no problem with that.

I think as of now every tweak can be done without them. I was just curious to ask.

But those variables sounds really interesting, can't wait when you finish a proper documentation for them, but no need to hurry. it's done when it's done. :)

P.S. small possible "bug" report I tried to install the new version and noticed that I have "AdvSysTweak.exe" still running. the installer prompted me of this. I think it's because of I didn't reboot after using it? But I closed it and the installer ran fine.

I like the new update. especially of the new amount of the tweaks! :D And the browse button seems to work now! I'll try to finish the placesbar addon, later.

« on: March 18, 2012, 10:21:46 am »
I know that you are making the new videos and all but I couldn't wait so I'll ask some questions that I have about creating add-ons.  :cheesy:

There is the [if] statement, Is there [and]? I don't know right now where could it be used or needed but I'm thinking something like this:
[if] |||radio1||| = true [and] |||check1||| = 0 [then]
the code
[end if]

second question is can we use multiple [if] like this way
[if] |||check1||| = 1
[if] |||check2||| = 1 [then]
the code
[end if]

Or maybe this way:
[if] |||check1||| = 1 [then]
some of the code
[if] |||check2||| = 1 [then]
rest of the code
[end if]
[end if]

Third can we use something like this to compare drives to see what drive user selected? Again no idea where would I need it, just asking.
[if] |||drive1||| = "C:"[then]
code
[end if]

Last question is about dword values in some registry keys. I have a "MaximumTransferLength" which value can be set from dword:00065535 to dword:02097120

Is there any way to use a text box for it like this, so user could set it also manually:
"MaximumTransferLength"=dword:|||text1|||

The problem as I think are the zeros at the beginning if I tell the user to set value from 65535 to 2097120.

Or will it accept it just as this way:
"MaximumTransferLength"=|||text1|||

I think this is all for now  :wink:

Found this topic: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/57746-system-restore-general-troubleshooting-fix-issues.html

Couldn't fix my problem but it could be helpful for others.

There was a step "Rebuild the WMI components " if I remember right AIO already does that?

What I haven't tried yet is to create a restore point in safe mode and then trying to restore it. It might be that something is interfering with system restore (e.g. anti virus) and it fails to create a proper backup what cannot be restored. If that is the case it would be same to me if I disable it completely and move to something more reliable backup tool.

Yes I tried it as it was one of the recommended methods on the windows help forum.

I guess something is messed on the registry, shouldn't have used those registry cleaners..

Could be that it can't be fixed, but if I ever find a fix for it I'll post the solution here!

Could be possible. I use Comodo Internet security, but it didn't warn me of any blocked files.

I looked to the AIO installation folder this what is inside in the erunt folder.

Is there everything that should be in there?
