Thanks for that.  It's a 64 bit version and the error code is 800B0100. I'll have a go at it tomorrow.

My 7 year old acer computer has not installed certain Windows 7 updates for the past couple of years.  I downloaded tweaking.com  repair tool.  It identified the need for 46 repairs but got stuck at number 16 (Repair Windows Updates).  It suggested running again in safe mode.  I did that but it got stuck again at number 16.  Here is the message I got:

The current repair has failed to start 4 times.
Something is keeping the repair from running.

Try running the repairs in Windows Safe Mode. (This will keep 3rd party programs from getting in the way of the repairs)
If the repairs still fail then please post in the Tweaking.com forums for support.

Any ideas?
