Feedback & Suggestions / Thanks to Julian (I think) ...
« on: August 29, 2021, 09:18:59 pm »
For finding my old Key Code !  'Old Betsy' circa 2006 finally crashed HARD, and half-assed backups were no help.  Now I've got a newer 'Old Betsy' and I just wanted to voice my appreciation.  It's been several times over the years that Windows Repair has saved my bacon, and just HAD to get it installed on this machine, too ... along with an External HD to do REAL backups.

I have noticed a great change in the Site since my last visit ... many new Tools & Gizmos ... very cool !  I hope you and Shane are making some real COIN for your efforts !  Also, a shout-out to Boggin, too ... even I can hold a grudge for so long.  ;-p  Keep up the good work. and a great big KUDOS for the help !  - Art

   Guess who's HAPPY, for a change?  Thaaat's right!  Tony, from the Norton Forum made my Identity Safe CLOUD whole again.  I am freekin' elated!  That Forum is the ONLY thing that keeps their "Support" alive!  Oh man, I'm just 'buzzing' right now and I 've got to get some sleep befor this problem 'harshes' it.  DAMN, I feel good.  Good and tired.  Almost like I'm back at work again!     I' be back after I sleep for a day (at least).     - Art

Well guys I'm back.  Not w/ a vengeance, but with a real problem.  Mr. Machine has been acting flaky.  Blamed it on Norton, but now I'm not so sure.  After I lost ALL 250 logins when their so-called Identity Safe Cloud while changing passwords I have been up for 2 days.  But I think I may have a different, possibly related problem.  Their Forum has been a help, but I haven't had time to address that BS.  I'll complain about it l8r.  [big surprise, huh]

Ran all tests according to procedure.  This is what WR Pro has gleaned for me:
The master file table's (MFT) BITMAP attribute is incorrect.
The Volume Bitmap is incorrect.
Windows found problems with the file system.
Run CHKDSK with the /F (fix) option to correct these.

 488282111 KB total disk space.
  55304148 KB in 108767 files.
     83080 KB in 26387 indexes.
         0 KB in bad sectors.
315151 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
 432579732 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
122070527 total allocation units on disk.
108144933 allocation units available on disk.

As you know, I'm lost in the 'brave new SW world'.  This really concerns me.  I know an MFT error is bad, very bad.  As much as I hated to (and shouldn't have), I relied upon Norton 360.  But before I blame this problem on them, I'm going to run my other/possibly better tools as soon as I post this.  So I'll be back soon, (I hope) after I throw 'the kitchen sink' at Mr. Machine.  I hope that you've had some laughs here in my absence.  Is there a new 'class clown' to take my place.  well I'll find out soon enough to check back.  I'll TRY not to do anything stupid ... just Scans w/o actions and report verdicts back.  L8R -  Art

Feedback & Suggestions / Re: Windows All-In-One Repair is the Best!
« on: November 27, 2015, 01:24:50 am »
  I want to wish everyone a Happy Holidays' as I am back up and running thanks to Windows Repair (All in One) for repairing my PC.  It was in such a mess, I had tried many things and other "Free" Repair Tools.  I remembered Tweaking.com from years ago and discovered Windows Repair through a search.  I wish that I had tried it first.  The other "Free" programs just made things worse, but Windows Repair did the trick.  I was so thankful for getting my PC working properly, that for the first time (other than CCleaner), I had to upgrade to Windows Repair Pro to give thanks for what they did for me.  This Forum is also a great resource for getting expert advise.  These guys know what they are doing!  They don't just send you off after giving you a B.S. line to make you think that you are supported.

Since then, I have gotten to know several people here that 'have your back' ... for real.  I appreciate that a lot.  So I had to stop by and give my thanks.  I want to wish everyone at Tweaking.com (and their Forum) has a great year, and many more to come!  - Art

All I can say is that, the only thing better than Windows Repair is Windows Repair (Pro Version).  - Art

Hi Julian -

I am just finishing up with some problems w/ Norton 360, plus a Serif installation.  Let me do that and and run WR Pro twice, to reproduce data.  Thanks for keeping an eye on me.  - Art

Nope, no good.  With that key combination, the context menu offers to "Run as different user".  Being Administrator, I'm reluctant to do that as it could bork my privileges.  Care to see my CBS file?  Is it safe to post in public?.  I've saved all the logs from my past 2 WR sessions.  The large folder log is pretty much a mystery to me ... 'old dogs & new tricks'.  At least I'm smart enough not tread where I'm not sure, generally.  lol  - Art

P.S. -
I forgot that for some reason, I can't invoke Run As Administrator from the Shortcut.  I have to go to the actual file location to do it.  Not a big deal, but maybe it is related to the CBS Duplicate Ownership problems.  - Art

That did it, Tim_Tweaking!  Firefox got me there without disabling any security programs.  SOLD!!  Thank you very much.  - Art

I have no allegiances, exept for "The Federation".  lol  I use Firefox normally, but since Norton's Identity safe does not work with newest Firefox I have been using IE.     I'll try the site with Firefox in a little while.  Good idea!  Right now, I have a 'bone to pick' with Norton.  Thanks.  - Art

OK.  I'll circumvent Norton, Ghostery, and AdBlock Pro.  But what do I do about the Java error shown in my posted image (WR Stop4.png)?  The javascript block is indicated at the bottom of the image, in a red rectangle.  I have never had this problem before on ANY other sites?  I realize that it's not Tweaking's problem but that of the vendor.  It made me frustrated, then angry that I could not purchase your product.  Yes, I was 'POed', but it was for  a good cause.  - Art

OK, I hate to be cold about this, but I just tried to purchase WR Pro for the 5th time ... and STILL no love!  I White Listed the site on Ghostery AND disabled AdBlock Plus and now I get a Java warning that boots me to HTTP 404 after the site opens for about a second (see attached file "WR Stop4.png").  What the hell?  Do I have to shut down every bit of my security settings to make this purchase?  I promised you guys that I would buy WR because I use it  and sort of like it.  But my patience has worn thin and I think that I've gone above and beyond what needs to be done to purchase your product.  One can only imagine the lost sales that have and will be lost because of this.  If you are using this site on a Trial basis I suggest you drop it like a bad habit!  I'm not going to 'lift my skirt' for some non-descript sales site to 'see my goodies'.  Fix it.  Fix me.  Do something.  - Art

To hell with it, I'm going in anyway.  I better not get shafted on this.  - Art   :undecided:

Here's additional information (per Norton) that may help:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2010-040922-3853-99

[edit]  Also, when I tried a access the payment site Ghostery blocked SeeWhy and booted me to a HTTP 404 (see attached file "WR Stop3.png").  Are these warnings acceptable to you guys?  It is illogical for me to supply financial information on a site like this.  How do they get away with it ... I've never heard of them and they seem dubious, at best.  Am I insane not to do business with them? -  Art

Desktop Specs.:
Window 7 Pro 64-bit v6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601, Norton 360 v22.5.2.24

Was going to purchase the new WR Pro, but Norton stopped me.  When downloading new version, Norton File Insight had no problems with the file itself, however the purchase was flagged by Norton as a "Dangerous Site" (see attached WR Stop1.png).  Looking further, Norton details that the site contains Threat "Spyware.ADH" (see attached WR Stop2.png), so you lost a sale ... sorry.  - Art

Hi Tom -

Weird, I don't know where I got "Rick" from! lol  Anyway, it is the open Start Menu that I am trying to capture.  Mine immediately closes upon clicking Snipping Tool, or anything else for that matter.  I'll keep trying.  Thanks "TOM", if that IS your real name!     - Art

You know, Rick -
That's the 1st thing I tried. lol  But with the start menu open, when you click on Snipping Tool, the Start Menu immediately closes.  When you open Snipping Tool 1st, all desktop  is frozen.  So, I used Print Screen to capture the open Start Menu and then cropped it w/ Serif Draw to reduce file size.  Was trying not to show all of my desktop.  No tell what some nefarious scum-bag may glean from it.  - Art
