General Computer Support / Re: Win 10 won't boot except to Safe Mode
« on: October 06, 2016, 04:22:18 am »
Sorry my English, said that I could not start to normal mode before running the Tweaking.com repair. And could not start e.g antivirus or install pgms etc. in Safe Mode (!?)... but (feeling so stupid now  :shy:) didn't even try MsConfig. However, seems to work now.
Thanks a lot.

Mine Win 10 too,
just suddenly prevented to boot except to Safe Mode. Running Tweaking.com repaired the situation but on next restart this returned to Safe Mode. Tweaking.com is processing again, but I don't expect proper correction when not knowing the real problem. What should I check?

OK, thanks.
I do the same to this.

General Computer Support / How to mark topic abandoned/completed? SOLVED
« on: August 20, 2015, 06:10:58 am »
Hi,
after Shane, on Aug. 8. decided my problem of "Windows update error 800B0100, 80073712, 80246007, 80070002" to be solved (!?!), I have continued alone fighting this issue,  without any success worth mentioning. I still cannot use Windows' own backup but I have installed Macrium's and Tera Byte's system image softwares, so I now can take steps back every now and then.

Now, like I said in my later post on that chain, I don't blame anyone in giving up (I'm quite near by myself too). On the contrary, I really appreciate the unselfish work you do to help us 'dummies'. But now I just want to know if I have to mark my topic completed somehow. How?  (I'm sure, there's instructions visible but have not noticed - and most of time my PC is in a nonworking condition)

I opened a new topic, for it seems to me that my original topic is not valid anymore.

Still one more snapshot:

I tried to make only the system image and got errors 0x807800A1 and 0x800423F4. And tried to run updates one by one - no success.
Then I downloaded Macrium's and Terabyte's backup softwares and succeeded to create images with both of them. Now I compare the softwares a bit, make survival disk and then start to try variations of restore-reinstall etc. win 7. ;)

One day gone again with no changes in my situation.
Today I carefully went through the Tweaking.com repair procedure once again. Everything looked fine ... except that Backup and update still give same error messages
One new notice is that the pdf printer (Dopdf 7, important to me) does not work anymore; no error messages, looks functioning but creates no pdf. Reinstalled (Dopdf 8), no change, installed PDFCreator (With lot of rubbish to uninstall) - it works!? ... but this is a footnote, however.

I'm gonna give up and don't blame you if you do too.  Just hoped to get one proper backup to get cojones for new Windows 10 trials. I still have (...I hope...) that old backup, Jan 2014, to return and restart all the modifying. That seems to be the only way. But maybe on Monday, tomorrow I'll set out for a weekend trip.

Thak you all for effort
(Should I mark this as solved, how?)

Thanks Rick.
I have to study my router's settings. It's delivered managed by network connection provider and I have no idea how to make settings in it. But, luckily, there is google...

8
Emh.. actually it did not help!
It told to have corrected several things but the situation has not changed.
Like I told: I run the Fix It and this time the update offered 15 important updates. None succeeded, 0x800B0100 and code 643

The file I run was "Windows Update Troubleshooter" for win 7, i.e. WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagrab

9
Yes. OS is on C:
C: and system reserved partition D: are on SSD. See the attachment.

10
Boggin, meanwhile I editet my post

11
@ Boggin, cannot get any results with that findstr command.
What is that "[SR]" and does it need it's own quotation marks? Cannot recognize it to findstr's syntax
And if so, then there is not paired quotations?

... now it worked, maybe I made typo in earlier trials - it read the log, but no icon/text file appeared...
NOW i foud, it was on C:\users\...   but my actual desktop is not there!

Explanation: I have replaced the original C: drive by small (120 GB)  SSD, moved the system there (used some SSD utilities etc.) and redirected/moved everything windows approved to D: HDD (the original C:). Including users\"me".  In principle there is system and programs on C: and data on HDDs. But windows was not willing to move all, so there still is users directory on C: too.
That maybe has something to do with my problems, maybe not. This PC has worked well (OK, more or less) with this configuration for 2 years. These problems rised now, when tried to upgrade to Windows 10

12
Good morning.
Run the Fix It and this time the update offered 15 important updates. None succeeded, 0x800B0100 and code 643

The Fix It told that:
> Service registration is missing or corrupt - fixed
> Windows Update error 0x80073712(2015-08-12-Y-08_01_10) - fixed
> Problems in installing newest updates - fixed
> Encryption service components not registered - fixed
and:
> Incorrect Windows Update environment variables - not found
> Some security settings are missing or have been changed - not found
> Check for missing or corrupt files - not found
> Windows update services not running - not found
(my translations again)

Btw, after every "repair round", the Windows Update tells that previous update checked/updates installed NEVER. This is maybe normal due modifications?

13
Hi, we are slightly proceeding.
After .net removing and reinstalling, on 'first round' there were 25 updates. 10 completed, 15 not.  On next round there were 6 left (?), they did not complete (800B0100)
Windows backup has not changed.

Now, I have promised my wife not to sit on PC after midnight and now have 6 minutes left. I'll be grateful for all new advices, but will not try anything tonight anymore

14
Thanks again. Now the .Net is removed and reinstalled... and windows update is searching updates once more.
Whatever happens next, I cannot stop being amazed, and grateful, how you give your valuable time for some stranger's problems...

15
Thanks,
the first link opened a page where i thought I have to download something... But no, it started something which stopped the PC answering. After a while it gave a message something like (sorry, my translation from Finnish language, not correct terminology): "The command chain on this page stopped answering ..." and three choices: carry on, study the command chain or stop the command chain. Whichever i select, the action disappears.

I'm sorry, I must have done something wrong.

16
.. and here's finally the CBS log.
In normal session I'm not allowed to open CBS.log, even though I'm administrator (?!). So I restarted in safe mode and run sfc /scannow and copied the log to text file on desktop. And here we are now.
Hmmm... should I run the repair, reset file permissions, also in normal mode?

17
...and attachments. Pre-scan log but not CBS (suddenly I have not permission to open it...)

18
No success after all reparations and  now some mess with posting.
I'm re-writing this post and not sure what it should be, originally  :shy:

19
Northern Europe, Finland.
However, this seems to take lot of time: 'Reset file permissions' is still running - unfortunately I have many HDDs. So 'the report' will come here earliest in your morning and you see it when you have proper time. No hurry, it went over a long time ago

20
OK, it's easy job, I'll be back...
By the way, I have a feel that we have quite a different time zone, my time is 10.30 AM now.  (Just curious.)

21
Yes, I did the whole process in safe mode and run all the repairs automatically selected. Did not make any own selections.

22
Boggin, I agree

23
Good morning and thank you for answers

Actually, I maybe will try Boggin's suggestion in some phase but not yet.
I loaded the new Update, then run Rick's reset command, which just flashed on screen. Now the update is running... and failed with 800B10100 and 80073712

Thank you anyhow

Hi,
after two trials to upgrade on Win 10 (both times reached the "welcome back" screen, but not keyboard nor mouse functioned anymore, so I had no choice but restore win7 with repair disk and quite an old system image) and now cannot run updates nor create newer backup/system image... but let's start with updates.

Microsoft's troubleshootings, repair tools and fix its are tried without success - actually once the fix It stopped with message that some policy prevents running... Tweaking.com's windows repair process completed as well and the Pre-Scan found 158 servicing package problems (attachment)

Now, my own - and Microsoft's - knowledge has run out.

Ps. to render the letters in verification section would need a machine...
