And of course my linux broke too? My computer is annoying the crap out of me right now, since linux and windows broke independently. I don't even know why it did that, since my last fairly recent smart scan said everyhing was ok and I had no reallocated sectors or anything. I'll keep you posted, but I think the soonest I can do anything important is tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far!

No, I'm trying to avoid reinstall, so this is my last ditch effort. But since trying to get DISM to work for a offline windows image (I barely even know what that is) I'm going to have to renstall now. Just need to check it for any important files via my ubuntu installation. For safety, I think I'll just copy and paste all the info to it to make sure I get everything :p DEFINENTLY making a system image after the install, I ain't going through this again.

I have all the luck in the world with computers, don't I? :p Oh and just to let you know, windows 10 installed fine, and it gave me the slightly buggy windows 10 basic video driver since my graphics card doesn't have any drivers for windows 10, but 3dpchip (not the best driver updater, I know) suggested I go with the Vista/7/8 version, and after making sure I made a restore point, it actaully worked! A bit OT but I thought I may as well mention it. And I'm going to run DISM commands now, because who knows? Maybe it will work!

I can do a reinstall directly from the dvd, supposedly at least. That would be preferable, so I'll try that first. Maybe try a last ditch effort, if I can think of one.

I only have a dvd in here at ths moment, and even without one it fails. I'll be honest, I didn't BUT I do not have any essential files and even if after everything I do I'm stuck without Windows, I have linux to use, which in my opinion is better anyway. Just slightly more boring without all the problems to fix XD And I believe I could reset to factory default, but obviously that's only in extreme cases. I don't mind too much if I have to reinstall 10, it's just a bit of a hassle. Besides, windows 7 updates for me were way too much of aproblem on this machine.

Hello! First thing to saym it's my fault and most likely not the fault of a virus. I honestly don't know what I did, but my windows 10 boots up to BSOD error Inaccessible boot device, and nothing I've tried has helped. I dual-boot with linux, but it broke later, so that is doubtfully the cause. I can boot up linux and cd/dvds normally, it's just windows. Using the windows built in recovery options using the win 10 recovery cd, I used to be able to boot into windows using system restore, but I would have to it every time (to be clear, it didn't always do that, and as soon as it did I tried to fix it), but windows of course decided to delete all my restore points, ans startup repair was unable to fix it, and I can't get into the advanced boot options menu (i.e safe mode plus oher stuff), even using cmd prompt to enable it. Chkdsk and SFC don't work, and Dism didn't work properly even when I could boot up usig system restore, and I haven't made backups since I only recently installed windows 10. The reset windows option fails at about 30% and "updating" using the installation media disk reqires me to boot into windows. The only time I managed to access the advanced boot menu, safe mode crashed as well. As far as I can tell, my only option left is to completely reinstall windows 10 from scratch, which is inconvenient as I do not have many personal files, and no irreplaceable one I can't move, but is still a last resort. Is there anything I can do to fix it, aside from complete data-destroying reinstall? Sorry if this is a tall order, but I tried essentially everything I could think of, and I'm understanbly a bit annoyed. Thanks in advance!

Obviously I can't know for sure, but it sounds like a reasonable fix in general. I heard somewhere that th error was caused by too many drivers reaching an internal limit (I think :p) but also that a registry key caused issues, so for god measure I ran jetclean to weed out any possible registry entries that could cause problems. Also, I temporarily disabled my antivirus because I heard that helps too. If you see somebody else have a similar problem, feel free to tell them about some of these tricks, hopefully it will work for them too!.

Thank you, but the installation worked! Removing the non present drivers helped! Also I dual boot wih xubuntu and I heard to install windows 10 you have to boot up differently hen usual. So everything worked! I'm using basic windows display driver nowm but that's fixed easily enough. And I see what you mean about windows 10, but it has some useful features (a windows update that isn't broken) and the DISM command, both of which look promising. Hopefully my problems with windows update are over! And the malicous software removal tool failed to install. Good enough to mark as solved though! Thanks for your help Boggin!

This install failed again, but this time it actaully seemed to work, but after reboot it said "It failed but we didn't break anything badly!" and it's because of driver problems. go figure. Next step is to remove non present drivers and other stuff. Hopefully it will work this time....

I don't think that's the reason because it didn't even complain (that time) and it probably would've stopped me sooner. I could be wrong of course though. The repairs are done now, and I'm running System File Checker (SFC) and checking my file system (Chkdsk) for good measure. Hopefully it will find and fix errors so I can blame the failed install on that :p

Good to know! I use windows 7 home premium x64 on my main computer, and I mostly just want to experiment and get familiar with windows 10 on my secondary just because it looks interesting. And now there's an hour or more setback because windows 10 failed to install right where the first reboot should've been. Now I have to run windows repair and then redo the installation process, which for me is about an hour or two (to the point I got to anyway) all the while hoping win repair fixed the issue. And I have to be there when it reboots, or else it will automatically boot into my ubuntu partition. Fun fun fun

Thanks! And I just ran the setup (not done yet) and it never said anyhting about my nvidia even thouh it did before and I did the exact same thing 0_0 but it might have to do with me messing with the thing some. And is it alright if I go a bit OT and ask what OS you use as your main one?

Thanks! Finally I can escape my amazingly glitched windows 7 update. I have had so many problems with it, I decided that windows 10 might help. If not, at least I'll be familiar with windows 10. I'll post here again if I have difficulties reinstalling the driver, but I'll tentatively put this as solved.

Personally, I'd rather go through he installation and reapir the driver later if it's an option, than to try to install the driver for a different version of windows and hope for the best. Should I try to go through with the installation? It looks like it'd let me.

So is the software the main problem? If so, I think I may be able to get it through the installation and update the driver from windows 10. But do you know if it is just the driver software, which is a relatively easy fix I've heard, or could it be the hardware? And I checked, and the graphics card meets the minimum requirements of directx 9 (it's 11) and WDDM 1.0 (it's that exactly). So it looks promising that it is only the software.

Hello everyone! I was running the media creation tool to install windows 10, and it told me my graphics devixe was not compatible with windows 10. My device is Nvidia Geforce 7050, which is EOL, so it makes sense hat it wouldn't work right. Would installig windows 10 still work? I don't play any games on that computer anyway, so all I want for the graphics is that I can use the comouter normally. Is there any way I could do that without buying a new graphics card, or would the graphics not work correctly? Thanks in advance!

As far as I can tell, no. Either something I did fixed or it was a fluke. Eitherway, with an ehernet cable I won't need to go wireless. If I do experience wireless problems again though, I will try what you said out.

Ok, I'm working on, and so far the deleting the SSID "did" help, but I seem to still be getting the error, even though I'm connecting properly. Huh. I'll check the services out, but I'll let it be after that unless it keeps failing to connect. EDIT: The services were fine, so I'll do those commands if I need to. Thanks for all the help by the way, on this and my other threads! It is greatly appreciated.

Two things, number one I now have it hardwired with ethernet so it shouldn't be a problem anymore and two, I have a promising looking error that says: "Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address *excluded by me, just in case*.  The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." And when trying to fix it with the instructions, it was incomprehensible (to me). Any idea of a simple solution? Or should I just let it go since I have ethernet access?

I tried checking the channel, as that was the least "dangerous", but I seemed to be already on the best channel. I then made a restore point, clenched my teeth and uninstalled my wireless driver. After reboot I got a scare how the wifi icon was displaying a symbol that meant no wireless adapter, and then it worked. I connected to the network (after inputting my password), and it worked! At least it did. I put the computer to sleep, and it didn't want to connect. Back to square one. At least it automatically reconnected after a minute :p

Interesting about them both being wrong. I'll check that program out. Also, I named my network in my new house exactly the same as the old house, and that did cause some confusion amoung all of my wireless devices, trying to connect with the old network password instead of the new one, but that got sorted out fast. Could that also be a problem? I did make sure that the laptop deleted the network and then tried connecting, but who knows :p
