I am referring to the Windows Installer  used  to install new programs, upgrades etc.

Sorry for the delayed response.

Your fix reported "image not found."

I tried to use Windows Creation Tool, but I cannot access the USB because Acronis Recovery Manager precludes booting into it.  Acronis True Image 2019 does not provide option (that I can find) to deactivate Recovery Manager!!!  Even uninstalling it doesn't remove it! 

Egads!

No, I don't mean that the Start menu doesn't work!

In lieu of the Windows Start menu, I use ClassicalShell which merely lists the items rather than presenting desktop squares. (I have "repaired" the ClassicShell program with no solution of the problem. 

On the ClassicalShell, when I click on the listed item "Control Panel" or "Settings" or "This PC" or typing in the search box, "Windows Defender," none of these commands are executed, rather evoking the message "Application Not Found.

I trust this adequately describes the problem.

Sorry I did not make it more clear.

Cannot access Control Panel, Download Folder, PC Settings etc. FROM Start or any other way I can think of.

I keep getting "Application Not Found."

Besides SFC and Windows Repair AIO, I used RollBackPro (using snapshot or image from previous days.)

Nothing works!

Running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, latest version

Unable to enter "This PC", Control Panel, Devices & Printers etc.

SFC /scannow fixed corrupted files, bu no help.

Ran windows repair AIO, no help.

Tom,

I was finally able to install @bios software which makes updating the Gigabyte BIOS a cinch.

My main purpose of updating it was MS's tech support advice to do so in  order to update my Win 10 Pro 64 bit to current version.

IT DID NOT HELP!  installation completes but does not update!  No error message or error codes.

Attempting to upgrade Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, version 1709 to current version, I was advised that I needed to update my BIOS.  I went to Gigabyte, the mfg. of my motherboard, and found updating my BIOS to be incomprehensible.  I found a auto updater software called @bios, but it will not install.  Help?

Still does not work.  Hitting Enter reverts to:  c:\windows\system32

Yes, my Media Tool attempts to upgrade to 1903.  First, clicking on setup.exe in ESD USB rejected and told to remove USB.  Removed and attempted again.  In Microsoft style, waited to the very end to advise that upgrade failed due to "boot error."  Incidentally, repeated crashes of SFCFIX, according to comments via Google says software is problematic.

Scannow still is unable to fix  certain files.

Used the link you provided:  findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > %userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt  in CMD Admin., does not work!

Please advise.

Prior to executing your  instructions, I ran the Pre-Open Scan and corrected the errors reported.  This resulted in improved performance! Earlier, I had run a malware scan which showed no threats.  Then I rean chkdsk /r as instructed. EventViewr showd no errors! This showed marked performance boost!  Still, SFC /scannow showed unfixed files after 3 runs.  Downloaded and ran SFCfix.  It crashed near the end which was reported to developer.  RE: media creation tool.  Downloaded to USB.  As I write, I have not run the repair.   I will post further when I have completed repair.  Many, many thanx for your help.

PC. Win 10 slow as molasses etc.  SFC /scannow does NOT fix some corrupted files.  DISM attempts using different souces fail.  Help!!

I have 3 external hard drives with the identical problem.

Cables, connections & ports are ok, tested with independent device.

Each external HD shows light when powered on.

PC does not "see" drives preventing data entry or retrieval.

The HD was new and I formatted it thinking  that was necessary for the Windows 7 installation.

Apparently, my mistake as I ended up with a "no media" drive.

Can it be  fixed?

Using WinMediaCreator to download Win10 to USB did not work.

Determined error to be 0xc0000017. Many google fixes offer this:  from elevated cmd prompt enter:  bcdedit /deletevalue {badmemory} badmemorylist

Did not fix the error!

Drivers up to date.

Will turn off anti-virus.

Failed attempt was made from Win 10 setup file on external HD.

Will try w/win10 setup file from within Win 7.

Apparently, I did not make the problem clear.

MSCONFIG confirms that I have 4 relatively small startups.

But, I am not talking about the time these startups take to load.  Nor am I talking about the time of those processes which are delayed in loading well after the startups have loaded.

Rather, I am talking about the time between when I power on and when the startups start to load.

Following your instructions re: MSCONFiG......no help!
Following your instructions re:  Safe Mode....material speed up!

Found little program,  Toolwiz Care, which, among other features, allows you to Disable or Delay
startup items. Most helpful, it gives you recommendations based on survey of users.

It solved my problem.

Running Win 7 Pro SP1, my programs load like snails without exception.

I've run Repair, more than once, so I'm speculating that my ancient BIOS might be the culprit:  Award, v. F5 dated 2011.

I googled and found Gigabytes Tech. which refers to BiosPlusAgent for BIOS updates.

I paid my bucks, but have not heard a word for over two days. Getting a refund aside, can you recommend a source for
doing this update?
