Hey Boggin,

Thanks for your help!
First, the answers...
- I have a seperate modem & router (although both are provided by the ISP).
- Ethernet does work (but I'm 50+ feet away from the router. So running cat6 cable through the kitchen is not a good idea, which makes my wife very unhappy).
- So far, the internet seems to work when restarting to safe mode (w/ networking) without running any commands or repairs. Which is an interesting twist. Because it has always been necessary to run the Tweaking tool repairs.
- Finally, no... The router is in the coolest room in the house. The ambient temperature in the room is 26*C and the router is 32*C on the warmest part of the plastic case.

The event viewer part is a little more complicated... There are 59 errors in the last hour and 212 in the last 24 hours.

Hey Shane,


I have run Tweaking Windows repair as an administrator after restarting my computer in safe mode.
I run the "Repair Network" repair from the repair menu.
I reboot, everything works fine for an hour or two.
Then, Ba'am.... No internet again.
I have done this little dance 20-30 times and the result is always the same.
Can anyone help me figure out why I keep losing internet here?

SUCCESS!!!!
After much hesitation and tire kickin' i bit the bullet and purchased the full version on the MiniTool Partition Wizard (the free version will not work for this "fix"). The issue revolved around the "System Reserved Partition". It was set at point at 100MB and I was using 86 MB of it for something. That only left 14MB of it left for updating Windows to 1709. I tried everything I (and Google) could think of to expand the SRP.
Long story short... Get yourself a usb drive, full copy of the Partition Wizard and create a boot drive on that little usb. Apparently, Windows doesn't take to kindly to adjusting system partitions on a drive while it is being used. So by booting using the usb I was able to change the SRP to something above 500MB +/- and vwala , I now have a fully functional, updated Windows 10, 1709 Fall Creators Version PC.

I also get error code: 0xc1900201
I'll try a few more times and see if it produces additional errors.

p.s. I've also tried running the "Windows Update Assistant", the "Windows Update Troubleshooter" and also started my system with minimal start up and services running.

 Hey Shane,

My Windows update has been failing for a long while. This latest update (Fall Creators Update) has multiple errors starting with "We couldn't update the system reserved partition" -and- "This PC can't run Windows 10".

Still nothing Shane....

I tried both methods and the screen flashes but no changes are made. I could live without the icons, they are not as big of a concern as the shortcuts not working. Whether I double-click or right click and select open (or open with), the program itself opens but the file will not open unless I click open from inside the program.

Hey Shane,

I tried the commands. It seems my file locations are different than the ones you listed. Mine were, "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Root\Office15\excel.exe" (then winword, outlook, etc). However, when I try running the commands nothing changes. I also ran the Windows All in One version of your Tweaking tool (v3.4.0). No bells or whistles or monsters with their heads spinning indicating a virus. So i'm just stumped.

Shane,
My icons for MS Office 2013 no longer appear on my desktop. They now appear as a blank white page with the corner bent over. When you "double-click" on the icon, the program will start (ie. Excel) but the file itself will not open. However, If you start the program first then search for the file (even on the desktop) it will start normally.

I copied and pasted it to the admin cmd prompt.

There are some other quirky things going on as well. Maybe it'll help diagnose the problem. The folder in the task bar does not open. I cannot "right click" on any app on the desktop. I have to use a work around to reach am admin cmd. Explorer.exe crashes and Outlook seems to lock up when exiting and leaves the outlook.exe "closing" until I go into the task manager to end task.

I think, but I m not positive, that during a windows update session a couple of weeks ago we lost power. Now it seems that all of my restore points have been deleted, my windows 8.1 and 8.0 repair, refresh or restore options don't work (I get a message that says - The Drive containing the Windows system is locked, Unlock the drive and try again). I have tried everything short of Format and reinstall....
I have run several apps (including yours) trying to figure this out. I have all of the logs but I don't know which of them would be relevant to you. I also ran "List Volume" in "DiskPart" - It shows the OS on "C" drive as the boot and Recovery as the System. Is that normal?
