Thanks for the link.....when I get some time I will attempt to follow the instructions.....with the exception of the Windows Update problem I am not running too bad......maybe a little slower but this machine is about 5 years old.
Again Thanks for all of your support and time.

No the only Windows DVD came with the computer and is also intalled on drive D:......I did the repair from the D: drive.
I don't think it would be worth buying a new one.....I would be better off reformatting and doing a complete reinstall......I can live with manually updating if need be for now.

You get that screen anytime you click Windows Update no matter which updates are up there.....Important or Optional......however some updates do get installed automatically and I can get the KB number and go to windows and find it and download.
Attached is one that is there now and will not download.....

Event Viewer says "MMC could not create the snap-in" so this just keeps getting worse
Basically the computer is running fine except the update problem......I work around it by going to Windows Update and finding the KB numbers and manually going to Microsoft.com and downloading them......not the most efficent way but it works.......It is just wierd that I cannot find a fix for this???
Thanks for all of you help it is appreciated.

I have ran Windows Repair All v2 with the same error.....also installed the latest Windows Update Agent.....also went to services and stopped and restarted Windows Update.......same error.
Right now I am manually installing most updates.
Should I delete the DNS Tweaking package since it did not correct anything?

I downloaded the DNS program and enable it.......still the same error code 80240043 unknown error.
Should I disable and remove the DNS program since it did not correct my original problem?

I used your Tweaking.com- Windows Repair (all in one)......do you have any others I should be using?
I also have Service Pack 2 installed......everything should be up to date.

I have used Windows Fix-it along with various suggestions from YouTube.....Services is sey correctly and .TMP files have been removed......any fixes I have found do fix this problem.....I can use the shutdown button and it will load some of the downloads but not all.
