You noted that SFCFix.exe may not have completed, so I tried again. I let it run for 12 hours, the hyphen was still blinking but nothing else was shown after the DISM report that I posted. Does it mean anything to you?

2
Thank you for all, I'll do what you said is left.

3
One last question before I resort to such drastic measures. DISM says that the source can't be downloaded; isn't there any way to do that somehow?

4
I ran SFCFix right after sfc /scannow as you said. It ran very long and then started DISM which ran even longer.
The end note of SFCFix and DISM log are enclosed, I couldn't find any log of SFCFix.

5
Oh, I did so but not immediately after sfc /scannow. I thought that the SFCFix.txt, which did say no corruption, was the result.

All right next time I run the two right after each other. Do I need to download again, can't run the previous copy?

6
Didn't you mean the SFCFix.txt that I've posted already?

7
Weirdo, isn't it?

8
Thanks, I will do that.

9
Yes, I've tried these.
sfc /scannow said it had found some corrupted files but couldn't fix all of them.
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth said that the source wasn't available.

Thanks, I've tried some of the suggestions in these articles, gonna try the rest.

General Computer Support / .net4.8: 0x800f0922; Firefox: 0xc0000022

Hi,

I've tried to install .net4.8 but failed with error 0x800f0922

Also, recently Firefox wouldn't start with error 0xc0000022

Are these related, how to fix it?

I run Windows 8.1 64 bit; other programs, including browsers, work fine.

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for this advice too. If the update doesn't cause any problem I'll leave it, if it does I'll kill as you said.

Thank you very much for all again.

13
Whatever caused the the Office issue 'Repair' fixed it. Thank you very much.

When we're at it though, I'd like to get the update straight too; 'search' can't find it among the installed updates; what to do with that?

Hi,

I can’t open MS Office files directly. When I try, Windows Installer starts then fails as MSOCache\All is not accessible, Error 1706. However, I can open these files from their respective program. I run Office 2016 Pro Plus, 64 bit, on Windows 8.1.

This started when I installed Windows security update for Adobe, KB4477029; I have Acrobat DC on my laptop, and this is integrated into Office.

I’ve tried to uninstall this update, it doesn’t listed though among the installed updates; while it is shown in update history. I tried to reinstall it manually; I was told it had already been installed. I’ve found some update repair in Windows’ website, ran it, nothing happened.

Thanks for any help.

The article about Orange Defender calls for deleting two registry items, and two files. Three, I had deleted earlier, one registry key now. Still Orange Defender is shown in AVG PC Tuneup. I'm afraid we have to leave it at that.

Many thanks for all your help.

I've tried all thee tools that you recommended, couldn't find anything that may be related to Orange Defender. I can only imagine that some trace stuck within AVG PC Tuneup itself, that's why it 'detects'.

May I ask about two other programs that AVG PC Tuneup shows and I couldn't find anywhere what they are?
f244aca-5c80-4776-a9af-fda1b9f7febf and Optimize Start Menu Cache. What are these, do I need them, if not how to get rid of them?

Many thanks.

I don't know why, I could see the latest restore point only which was made after I got this filth.
I'm going to try the tools that you mentioned. Thank you very much.

Hi,

I inadvertently installed Orange Defender, as a disguised ‘Additional offer’. When I noticed it, immediately uninstalled with a thorough uninstaller. Yet, it still appears among the Startup and background programs, in AVG PC Tuneup; can even be toggled sleeping/awaken.

I checked all places with all searches for leftover files or register keys, couldn’t find any. I’m anxious as I run other virus / malware protections, anything from another defender may cause severe issues. How to find what AVG PC Tuneup detects so that I can get rid of it?

Thanks a lot.

19
Thanks, I will try that.

Not yet. I'm not sure how I installed Bitdefender and MBAM, for my account only or for everybody.

21
You're not not sure, I'm obviously way less. I only wait and hope.

22
I hope I can find something else. I'm afraid of recovering all my personalization, as settings, preferences, background pictures, etc. Also, my problems are not preventing me from using the system. At the moment I look and see. If the situation is worsening, I will try the non-destructive method first, possibly refresh in the second round.

23
I use safe mode for specific purpose, a few minutes only, so I don't know if BSOD would occur.
Now it hasn't for nearly a day in normal mode. If it returns, I will try to uninstall MBAM.

24
I have these two programs for years. BSOD occurs recently only, and apparently random. Lately, I had some problems with VPN, so I tried afc and restorehealth, both failed. That's why I turned to this forum, and these failures also occur in safe mode.

25
You suggested to uninstall MBAM. I understand it may interfere when it's turned on, i.e. in normal mode.
In safe mode though, what does it matter if MBAM is or is not installed?
