sfc says Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.  I ran sfc earlier thru the Tweaking Win 10 Repair and it pulled up one item and fixed it, ran it a second time and all was good, also ran the disk scan and no bad sectors. Now to continue . . .

Deployment Image Servicing and Mgmt tool says operation completed successfully. Still not able to get to control panel so will go with the
re-install. I have no idea.

I suspect it is the location more than the name. You could always rename it and see if it uninstalls more easily to determine that. Malware can have a way of worming files inside others without it showing up for us to find where to delete them (such a waste of talent) so you are trying to delete something at a location that does not exist there. Misleading you?

General Computer Support / Re: Superfetch service missing.

You might want to try checking 2 things that come to mind. Help me here guys, but isn't there a command prompt in the start up for windows that establishes the delay for running which may have been affected somehow with a freak variable? May need to check how it is loading up.

Second is that if windows believed your copy was not legit, it does not actually run a full install over existing os, so may need to try that again after clearing the issue to see if what is missing can be restored?

IOBit Uninstaller(free) gets to business pretty seriously also, if you want a file and remnants removed. I always suggest a restore point first in case it pulls something used in duplication.

General Computer Support / Re: Connecting computer to TV via HDMI

I got a 32" Sanyo much cheaper than a monitor to use for that, as was hdmi ready. Connected them and had video without audio for a time till I discovered a blip somewhere that the hdmi cable will not carry sound in this particular application. Add a sound cord, 2 to 1, 2 from the laptop out to one at the TV and then use the generic Windows high def audio driver as your sound option and should work like a charm.

I am able to get into the safe mode, but most apps still respond the same way.  Let me in to sys properties so I was hoping I could get in the back door, but no luck there either.

Probably something very simple I have overlooked. Early version of Win 10. Thankful to find your entrance to safe mode!!  Kudos for that!!   I ran all of the virus and malware apps with nothing except 2 adwares found on AVG with low concern which I deleted. Checked for root kits and all I could look for, ran the Tweaking Win Repair and found a lot in the parsing which was repaired. Restarted and ran again. One more, so repeated, got up the repair option itself and found several repairs needed, completed, rebooted, ran again, clear. Followed all the way through.  Still no resolution.

I have two accounts listed now, mine and administrator (which is new).  I had all administrative privileges naturally. Problem that showed up 2 days ago which started all the work is that I cannot get into system restore or settings of any kind. No administrative privileges available in either account or way to get to them.

Message that appears is as follows:    RESTRICTIONS
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

I found 2 very old topics that had this message but neither remotely apply.  Anybody tell me what I seem to be missing here?  I cannot get into system restore, control panel or much that can help me.  Seems to me I saw this with someone else before and it was a missing driver? But my memory is not that good.  Thanks for any help, TJ

Thank you much for the response. Fortunately I already checked the drive for errors and problems, that long process out of the way with no problems found.

Thank you for responding. I have disks for nearly everything but Win 7 and my internet service is not holding the download long enough to get a copy so looks like I will need to buy a copy and get it mailed out. I have inquired and no one I know has a straight OEM copy from Microsoft either. Have built a new system that has no OS yet, and I figured I'd better get used to Win 8 but that would be more than my folks could handle for changes. They still haven't gotten used to Win 7. Thanks for your time though. I wasn't coming up with a way to work around with any of my repair ware either. Figured it could not hurt to ask.

Blessing, TJ

Brought home parents Win 7 x 64 bit hard drive and plugged it in as slave on my Win 7 64 bit. I could get into histories and find problems, removed malware, no problem, but no disk with straight Win 7 to recover start up drivers. I have tried many times to download the iso, but my internet will not handle it. The recovery discs we have are loaded with the wrong machine drivers so won't open for their machine. I can enter the drive as slave with no problem, but when change boot order to start from it, I get to the sign in and it freezes on aero screen asking if I want to repair or start normally. Start normally option does nothing, repair only loops back to restart to log in and and freezes again at next screen.  Appears to have run into problem when downloading a MSE update on March 21 and cycling over and over trying to extract to cab file not found, but had other unrelated issues which made me search for malware.

Question is, since the windows won't start to run this software from F where problem drive is, can I in any way switch it to run on F: drive while operating from my working C: drive?  Any suggestions on reinstalling the Win start up files to a locked up drive would be greatly appreciated. Flash drive not opening when running on F:. Thanks!
