Hi!

I do have the latest drivers. I may of disabled the wired aspect of it trying to get the "other half" to work correctly. I will Google that issue.

Ya know, when I got the card, it was great!! No problems....but as I mentioned before, once Comcast gave me a new modem/router, it all went to cr*p. Actually....that isn't true. A bit before I got the new modem/router from Comcast, the adapter was acting up. Ever since the new device was introduced, the adapter has been extremely moody.

If you were to buy a new card, what would be your top three cards be to choose from? Price does not matter....because I know they do not go for an insane amount of mullah!

Thanks Shane!!

Hi Shane!

One problem I have is, is that my system does not recognize when I have my system "wired". So, I can only go wireless. I used to be able to have it "wired", but am not sure what happened to where it does not recognize it....weird.

My wives laptop runs wireless, and she has no problem at all. My step-sons computer runs as "wired", and has no problems at all. We do have a cordless phone, but rarely use it. I'm not sure of the frequency  of it. Yes, all three of us have cell phones, but do not use them that much. Even then, the computers do not seem to be affected by them.

All three of us can be using the internet, and sometimes things run fine, but if there is anyone who is going to have any issues, it will be me.

Nothing else in this house is running wireless.

Any other thoughts? Also, why can't my computer recognize when it is being wired?

I have no viruses, or malware. For Malware, I use either SUPERAntiSpyWare and Malwarebyte's (not running at the same time), and run Norton Security Suite that comes with Comcast cable.

Thank you Shane!!

Mike

Hi!

Again, I am back because of another issuer with my computer (PC)!!  :teeth:

I own a Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (Device Manager calls it exactly this). About five or so times a day, my connection to the internet gets to be out right annoying! I can launch Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera.....doesn't matter. I can sit there for 30 seconds or something like that     with nothing coming up in the browser. Then, I get a message saying something about how it can not connect..... :omg:

My problems escalated after I received a new modem/router from Comcast/Xfinity. The modem/router is a ARRIS TG862.
Well, I called Comcast...they did all of their "what ever they do", and in the end, everything from their side was perfect. Even outside of my house, the connection is all good. They told me that unfortunately, I might want to buy different network card.  :blank:

I did the "Repair Internet Explorer" program found on this site, and it helped for the next launch of Internet Explorer. After that, it was lame again.

When I click on my computers network link, I do see everything in my home network; Other computers, wireless printers, the stupid ARRIS modem/router......

I must mention, besides the Linksys Adapter that I have, Device Manager points calls out an "Intel(R) 82579V Global Network Connection". Is this part of my problem? Also, there is a "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" listed too. No problems with any of them.

When I do a speed test (www.speedtest.net), I get results that range from really slow to what is expected. I just now did a test on the computer, the results from a Palo Alto, CA site are: PING: 25ms, Download: .210 Mb/s, Upload: 1.375 Mb/s. Global average download from what Speedtest.net says is 1.73 Mb/s.

My house is not that large, and I am in a different room, but the speed has before been A LOT faster for downloading; My highest download test is 6.72 Mb/s.
I keep every electronic thing in the path of connection turned off to make sure at least there is no interference between the computer and the router.

Also, I have noticed, if I go the hard wire route, the computer does not recognize it. It still goes wireless. How do I get the "wired" thing going again?

By the way, I have the latest drivers for the Linksys adapter.

Could someone please help me with what is going on? If I have to buy a new card, that is fine with me. If that is the case, what is the best one there to purchase? I do not care what the price is....I just want this Internet connection to work correctly!!

I'm starting to not like PCs..........

Thank you all in advance for helping me out with this!!

Best,
Mike

Ya know what? I have trials of a few different Autodesk products in my computer; AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit & Showcase.

AutoCAD, Inventor and Revit just disappear when they first come up on the screen. Showcase is fine. Hmmm......

By the way, I have not yet uninstalled the Revit 2014 yet.

My system has been having some issues lately, and I was thinking of just re-doing the hard drive. I'm sick of little stupid issues with this computer. No, it is not an Alienware! ;) Pieces of cr*p......

I tried the "Windows Repair Tool" that is from Tweaking.com, and it isn't making my system any better, anymore. No, I do not have a virus or anything that Malwarebytes has found.

Any other ideas??

Thanks again!

Mike

Hi!

Why is it that when I launch this one program that is on a 30 day trial, it turns off right when it comes up on to the screen?  :teeth: The program is Revit 2014, from Autodesk.

Yes, I could and probably should go ask on their forums....but Shane is such the man because he has helped me with some other things, I think he can do it again...and quickly!

I need to get this resolved rather quickly because I need to start learning the program......rather quickly!

Thank you all for the help in advance!

Mike

Hi!

I tried to download a program from Autodesk on to my P drive and it won't let me install it.

This is what is going on hard drive wise in my computer. I have a 120Gb SSD for my C drive. I have a 3Tb drive installed also that is partitioned.

Lets say I have 10Gb left in my C drive. I download all stuff on to the other drive in a different partition (obviously).

Well, when the program asks where I want to install it to, I change the path from C:\blahblahblah to P:\blahblahblah.

Shouldn't this mean all of the info goes over to the P drive? it doesn't do that. Well, it does install it there, but it leaves a lot of stuff on the C drive which takes up memory.

How do I make it so that all of the files go to the P drive or any other drive besides the C drive.

Right now when I go to C;\Autodesk, right click....properties....it says I there is 11.8 Gb underneath the folder. WHY? I purposely bought a smaller SSD drive because I do not want any programs on the C drive...well, Windows and a few other small things. I have the 3Tb to put everything else on to.

I hope I didn't ramble to much here. Sorry if I did. =)

Can anyone tell me how to fix this so that everything goes where I want it to go?

Also, if I was to pick up the folders in the C drive to put them somewhere else, how do I redirect where the computer thinks those files are to the new spot?

Thank you everyone who responds!!!

Best regards,

Mike

General Computer Support / Embedded memory size from a folder
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:01:37 pm »
Hi!

I know there is a program for what I am going to ask. It's been years since I have seen it, and I have forgotten what it is.

QUESTION:
What program is there that tells you what files in your computer are what size?

For example.....I want to know what the largest files in my computer are. How do I get a list of this?
Also, is there a program that tells me how much memory is being used up inside of a particular folder...automatically, right there on my screen.

I do not want to have to go to every folder, right click on it, click on properties...blah blah blah...

Does this make sense?

I have a SSD 120Gb boot drive, and a 3Tb drive for just about all programs, games, music, photos and what not.....

The 120Gb drive is filling up somehow when I rarely install programs to it. The system restore files are deleted, so that opened up about 8Gb. I have 14.6Gb free now, and there should be more in my opinion. My downloads go to a partition in the 3Tb drive.

Thanks a bunch!!

I appreciate all mature answers!!! =)

Shane,

I got the new Blu-Ray drive back from CyberPowerPC, and it works correctly!! Unfortunately though, the other drive I have I believe may be broken. That one came from a computer that I bought in 2006, so I am not to surprised....I don't really care about that one anyways.

Thanks for the help Shane!! I really appreciate it!!!

This now may be closed!!!

Really?

I have never had two cards before. I do have two monitors though. So you are sayig that if I had two cards, one can be dedicated to one monitor, while the other goes to the other monitor!

Very interested, and very cool!

I read that correctly, right?

Thanks Shane!!!

Shane,

I just popped the Blu-Ray drive in the mail today. If it does not work when I get a new one back, I will continue this post with my next question. In the meantime, please keep this open. :)

Thanks Shane!  :cheesy:  I will report back (regarding this) within two weeks. :)

Hi!

My system has a EVGA Nvidia GeForce 580GTX 3Gb card in it. I use this system for both games and CAD work. The CAD programs I use; AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, etc..... The CAD programs do not run all that great with with the GeForce card. They do okay, but not as well as the appropriate card would. I knew this when I configured this system.

I want to know, could I add an Nvidia Quadro or an ATI FirePro card to the system so that when I do work with the CAD programs, I can switch the video card to the one meant for CAD?

Yes, I know, I cannot run SLI with the Quadro card also inserted.

Thanks a bunch for any and all who answer this post; probably Shane will do it first. :D

Hi!

I tried the drive in the other computer, and no go. Matter in fact, I took even another DVD drive and put it in my newer computer and that didn't work either. Same kind of results.
Besides trying a different sata cable, any other ides on why it is like this? I don't get it. The drives are all recognized, but they do not want to read that there is an empty disc, or even a disc in the drives.
Is there some sort of setting that is off? I used your system repair tool and that didn't help.....but did for other non-related issues.

I've been instructed to send back the Blu-Ray drive before the warranty ends (3/20/2013). I hope it isn't a motherboard issue! That will be a headache if it is!

What to do....what to do......

Thanks!

Mike

Hi!

I have a problem with my Windows 7 (besides my Blu-Ray and DVD player not working right).

When I go to look for something like MSCONFIG in the "search" when you click on the "start" button, it says, "No items match your search". The same when I try to look for "cmd".

This happened to change on me a few weeks ago.

Any help to get this fixed for me will be very appreciated!

Thank you all in advance!

Hi! Thank you for replying!

I haven't tried to put the Blu-Ray in to another computer. I spaced on that idea! Thanks for bringing that up. I will try that today. The DVD drive has always worked in the HP computer that I have.
I have though reconnected the cables on the two drives, and like mentioned before, have redone my hard drive with the Windows 7.

You say that possibly the slot in the motherboard could be bad. I sure hope it isn't that!  :omg:

 Any other possibilities for my computer issues?

Thanks again Shane!! You have helped me once before by sending me a link to the Windows Repair Tool, and it worked great!!! I now use that tool when ever something is not working well anymore with my computer. Every time I use it, my computer is much happier....and so am I!!

Mike

Hi!

My system is not wanting to recognize my Blu-Ray and DVD player when a disc is loaded in to the drives. Well, sometimes (but very rarely) for the DVD player, it does, but never for the Blu-Ray.

Now, let me clarify what I just said a bit.....When I go in to Device manager, the two drives show up as what they are. I go to properties, and everything is all fine and dandy.

When I put a DVD-R or a +R disc in to either one of them, then go to Nero "Nero Burning ROM", or Cyberlink PowerDVD 12, or even the LG Tool kit (Because the Blu-Ray drive is from LG, model number UH12NS29), the stupid PC says to, "Please insert a disk into DVD Drive (D:)". Actually, when I do that same thing and put it in to the Blu-Ray, it says, "Please insert a disc into drive H:"Same thing said when I go to "Computer" and click on the drives. When I put in a Blu-Ray disc that has prerecorded material on it like "RUSH - Beyond the lighted stage", it says, "Please insert a disc into drive H:".

Also, even though the discs can be brand new, Nero sometimes says' "Please insert an empty disc to write to...". The damn thing is empty because it is brand new! No matter how many discs I use, it is stuck on telling me the same thing.

All of my drivers are up to date. I have zero viruses in my system, and never had one in it!

My system is (major components):
Windows 7 64Bit, i7-3930K, Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3, 16Gbs of G.Skill RAM @ 2133MHz, nVidia GPU (not that this matters), 1000 watt Power Supply (it's overkill for me)...........

I called CyberPowerPC (Whom I ordered the computer from) about this. They sent me a small program that fixes something or other to where the Blu-Ray and DVD drives should work. Did they work? Of course not. NOw I am supposed to send in the Blu-Ray drive. The DVD drive is from my old HP system.

I have redone the hard drive like if it was brand new with barely anything in it. Guess what the DVD and the Blu-Ray brothers did?? Nothing! Of course they did nothing! What did you expect?

I am lost! Can someone please help me out with this stupid issue!?!?

Thank you very much for all of you who read this post and for anyone who maturely answers my question. :)

Best regards,
Mike
