General Computer Support / Windows 10 Start Menu plus problems
« on: December 05, 2015, 09:19:33 am »
For some unknown reason my Windows 10 Start menu will not open and right click on programs on the task bar do not respond either.   Doubleclicking on shortcuts indicates "do I want to run" and I select YES and the program disappears and is not showing in the Task manager either.  Whenever I reboot it takes a very long time to get started again and that has not been the case before this problem reared it ugly head.

When it is up it appears normal otherwise and I can run some programs without any diffculty as I am doing with the Firefox posting this on the Internet.  In some cases when I can't get the program to run from the shortcut I can go to the actual program exe file on the C drive and run it with no problem but not all will run that way either.

I have run Tweaking latest version in Safe Mode 3 times but doesn't really appear to be doing anything at all.  I have tried all the suggestions I found on the Internet including using the Powershell with "Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}" pasted into it but get the message "denied etc".

So far 2 days of frustration with this as I have not been having any problems with Windows 10 since first installed months ago.

HELP!!! someone.

General Computer Support / Problems with SignaLink USB being muted
« on: November 03, 2015, 10:45:28 am »
I have been using my SignaLink USB external sound card for over a year successfully.  I use it for digital work on both HAM and MARS bands but for some reason this past week Windows 10 started muting the "input" or microphone from it. I take it off mute and within 20 seconds to a few minutes it is muted again by Windows. What I do see is in the Volume Mixer a pop-up labeled Microsoft(C) Register Server that shows as being turned off or muted.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also changing USB ports to no avail.

I have been using it with Windows 10 since early August with no problem.  I ran Tweaking PRO, it set for all repairs, for over 5 hours; separate runs of SFC /Scannow; McAfee Virus Plus and a Malware program on my setup and nothing has come up with a fix. I read the Q&A files for this device on line and don't find anything that appears to address this problem.  HELP!

Negative on all files and checking Device Manager yielded nothing after I had to show all hidden.  I did a scan of the hard drive and of the registry and didn't find any of those you listed.

I tried using the regular uninstaller and also Obit Powerful Uninstaller plus running registry search and deleting left overs but it still shows up in the "Printers and Devices" as a device (see pix attached the red icon with the L on the devices) and when I right click on it offers to do stuff.  I don't trust this and somehow I accidentally picked it up as I was upgrading from Windows 7/8 on my Desktop.  Don't mean it was part of the upgrade I just made a mistake and let it install.  It is stuck in my computer like Gorilla glue.  I have searched the Internet and I find all kinds of sites offering to remove it but just a come on to get their software which doesn't remove it either.  Appreciate any help getting it out of my computer.

I accidentally allowed the Lenovo Solutions Center software to download and install on my Windows 7 Lenovo desktop and now I have tried every thing I can think of to uninstall it.  It no longer appears on the Uninstall list but still shows up in my Devices and I can't find a way to remove it.  I have tried many different sources to no avail.   :teeth:

Anyone out there have a solution to getting that complete erased from my hard drive/system????

Thanks, I tried all the steps first then ran Tweaking full options and was able to successfully install the program no problems at all.  Appreciate the feedback and it gave me the confidence to try once more to install.

:teeth: While trying to install/reinstall Quicken software I keep getting Error 1310 and after over an hour with Quicken support they tell me I need to call MS because it is a problem with the MS installer software.  Using Windows 7 64 bits computer.  I tried running Tweaking and then tried again only to get the same error and in the meanwhile ended having to restore my C drive from my backed up image files.  Any suggestions that can help shed light on this would be appreciated.

SOLVED:  Problem solved by running Tweaking with all options selected.  Thanks

Happens a lot using Roxio Video editing and some other programs with sometimes the message "explorere.exe" stopped responding and blanks out my desktop.  I use Task Manager to restart Explorer.exe application.  The right click problem as quit showing up for now don't know what I did to eliminate that situation.  After several of these events I restarted the computer from shut down status as opposed to restarting it.

First sign of problems since I did a clean install of Windows 7 64 SP1 back several weeks ago when you were helping me with another weird problem.

Thanks for your response and I did run Tweaking AIO with all items checked and maybe that fixed the right click problem I just don't know.

« on: February 18, 2013, 09:30:03 am »
When I right click on the icons on the desk top for some reason over the past 2 days it is very slow.  Sometimes ending up with message "explorer.exe not responding" then closes and refreshes the desk top. Several programs started doing the "not responding" message and having to be shut down and restarted only to have the same thing happen.  I have run the AIO latest version with all items checked and it made no different with this problem.

Fortunately for me I backup the drive every night and keep 3 days of copies with Macium Reflect.  I found old document files from the drive and have been copying back to HD and that is saving the data files I thought I had lost.

I didn't format the HD but did do a clean install from the DVD of Windows 7 SP1 that I downloaded from link you provided.  Everything seems to be working okay so far and the program that caused me all the problems works ok now.   :undecided:

Don't see any "Windows-old" afraid I screwed up and wiped it out with my clean install.

Interesting, I have been having trouble with PCPitstop since all the attempts and today one of the things the suggested I do was to download your AIO and run it!  Just thought you would like to know that tidbit.

Thanks and I do appreciate all the advice and support/help you have provided to me.  I have to wonder if this occurred when I upgraded from the OEM version that was on the machine when I bought it and the retail version I put on later.  We'll probably never know what was the cause and that bugs this old man.   :artist:

Ran another attempt having removing all that setup complained about but same results.  Message this morning that it restored my old version and it had in deed.  Thanks all your help but it is beginning to look like a lost cause with no message indicating what I could do to make it work.

Okay, I ran those 2 steps of your Tweaking and created a new user.  To be sure I understand what are my next steps?  Do I use the Windows 7 DVD or Windows 7 SP1 DVD?  Am I to switch to the new user then follow your guidelines?  I await your directions!

BTW, my name is Vic and I am in Texas near Dallas.

Run "upgrade from new user" are you referring to the upgrade of Windows 7 SP1 DVD?
