Hi there
I tried to find thread with similar problem but couldn't so I'm posting the new one.
I have iMac from 2010, I'm trying to re-install the 10.6.4 OS (was shipped with it) because original HDD failed and I got it replaced with help of a tech. Now when I try to install the 10.6.4 again on the system it reaches the stage where it ask to choose the language and on next screen the little pop-up box appears and ask to "restore from back up or restart". All the options in task bar are grayed out.I have no backup and restarting bring me back to zero.

Please suggest what should I try to fix it.

PS:- I ran MEMtest the results were positive, in addition, I successfully installed UBUNTU to make sure that the system as a whole is working fine.  :blank:

Thanks in Advance(any help would be appreciated)

General Computer Support / Help with DHCP for home network
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:25:59 pm »
Hi Shane

I have router/modem (at home ) and now I want to create my home lab on one of system which  holds the few VM's on it. but do I need to turn off DHCP on the home modem/router?

If I do so I won't be able to get any device connected to my home network. Is there any way that I stop the wifi on my wires port and still can connect the devices via wireless?
Thanks
Vik

Hi CsiRandy
If you have the recovery disc or image, you can re-image your computer using that.
or if you have restore points saved in past, you can restore your computer to last good known configuration.

General Computer Support / new server set up
« on: April 15, 2013, 05:03:13 pm »
Hi Shane
I have bought an empty server from a friend its Quad-core intel processor ,10GB RAM, 2 500GB HDDs. I wanna set it up for practice at home, but don't know where to start with.
first, I have one windows laptop with upgraded to 12GB RAM, I5 CPU, which I would like to use as monitor/control for the server ( as someone told me that I can use KVM port via cat 6/5e to do so). can I do that straight away or I have to conect separate monitor KB for once?
Second, where I would get windows OS to install server (something like esxi not sure).
after that I gonna set up few Virtual machines which in turn I would use as my virtual network. :undecided:
A word of advise and help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Vik
PS:- The server is Del Power-Edge 2950

  hi Ahneinei
First things first your PC/laptop is too old to be working(thank God it did so long).
the best thing you can do either is to install the repair, as Shane said, or install Ubuntu.
Its free!!
cheers
