Look under the resolution heading of this article and try this procedure. Please export the key prior to any changes so that you have a backup of the original key! This article is for windows server 2003 and windows 200, but should work the same for Vista or 7.

General Computer Support / Re: Event 6 kernel-Processor power issue
« on: October 27, 2012, 11:26:07 am »
To the best of my understanding there are many different things that can contribute to this error and the fix or workaround may depend on the information below:

Need more info please:

What brand/type of computer are you using?
Desktop/Laptop?
Which OS/Ver Vista Ult/ Windows 7 Home Pre etc?
What motherboard brand is installed?
What is the current bios version?
What proccessor does your PC have?
Is the PC crashing (BSOD)?
Does Sleep and/or Hibernation work?
What have you tried doing if anything?
Please post any dumps in C:\Windows\Minidump and/or MEMORY.DMP in C:\Windows (compressed to a zip file)

Some things to try:

Updating your bios firmware.
Disable sleep/hibernation.
Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Under your power plans choose "Change plan settings" > change advanced power settings > expand Processor Power Management > set both min and max to 100% and if it exists set System Cooling Policy to passive.
Go into your bios settings and enable Intel Speedstep (EIST). (check for bios update first)

You're missing several services. This was most likely due to an infection/rootkit. If you haven't done so already you need to clean your system! Malwarebytes, avast (boot scan), SuperantiSypware, TDDSKiller and in your case Combofix are recommended. Once your system is clean then any remaining services may be repaired. Sorry don't have time to go into further detail right now, just got called to work, but if you need more help just ask.

Ok so your RpcSs ImagePath is actually ok. The difference between the 2 is the addition of the file extension (.exe) to the svhost. The original ImagePath value doesn't have this which I believe is why RKill reports it incorrectly. You can remove this manually via regedit if you wish, leave it alone, or use the atached reg file to change it.

example:
your current ImagePath Value is:
%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k rpcss

The original Value is:
%SystemRoot%\system32\svchost -k rpcss

Either value will work just fine.

What type of internet connection are you using? Wireless, Ethernet etc?
Are you using a Proxy or VPN?

Some things to try:
If you have more than one antivirus uninstall all but one.
Turn off any antivirus real time protection.
Turn off your firewall (again you should only have 1)
Try booting into safe mode with networking.
reset router/modem.
Using another PC download your network adapter drivers from your PC manufacturer and transfer to pc.
Uninstall your network adpater drivers (check the box to delete driver) then reboot and install the one you downloaded ealier.

Please report your findings.

You may also try resting your TCP/IP settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
And your winsock/LSP: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

NOTE: Any programs that use alternate winsock settings will need to be reinstalled after doing these fixes!

Checking Windows Service Integrity:

 * RpcSs => %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe -k rpcss [Incorrect ImagePath]

This could be a problem! May not be a solution to your posted problem, but should be fixed if not a false positive.

Run regedit.exe and check the ImagePath value of the RpcSs service key. It should be the same as listed above.
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs

Right click on the service and export before making any changes!
Post the exported RpcSs.reg.

Also please run FarBar Service Scanner and post the log file. Check all boxes.

Great glad it's working now!
As another bit of advice I would suggest that you choose and only have one antivirus that you use for day to day security.
Your services list suggested that you have multiple ones installed. IE avast, Hitman pro, Trend Micro etc. (Maybe just remnents from cleaning your PC) This can cause some conflict issues and some serious performance issues. I would uninstall (use a cleaner for that antivirus afterwards) only keeping one or uninstall all of them and get another such as MSE.

Well as far as the corrupted file that cannot be fixed via sfc "PINTLGB.IMD" goes, this is a common issue with Asus (I'm assuming yours is one do to some asus services in your list) computers that have Windows 7 installs (my sons PC included). A reinstallation using the recovery discs will most likely NOT fix that file as the file on the recovery discs are usually also corrupted. You will need to find an original install disc for Windows 7 for your version and service pack (the one you are currently on) and extract the file. You also need to set the permissions and takeownership of the file, as it is a system file, in order to replace it. Info: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/42776-extract-files-windows-7-installation-dvd.html Once you have a copy of the file you'll have to overwrite the existing file in all of its locations. Such as:

C:\Windows\IME\IMESC5\DICTS
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-i..lified-chinese-core_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_763763505e93084b
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-i..lified-chinese-core_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_74064f8861a484b1

The locations in the C:\Windows\winsxs\ may be different for you just do a search in explorer for the file there.
After you have done this the sfc /scannow may or may not report that file correctly (may still show as a mismatch).

As for you main issue:
Are you by chance running a Proxy or have you in the past? Or possibly a virus has changed those settings?
Also have you tried turning off your firewall? Or temporarily uninstalling any aftermarket programs that have a firewall with them such as your antivirus.

Have you tried connecting in safe mode with networking? If not please boot into safe mode with networking and check if you can use 32 bit IE.

To boot into safe mode with networking restart the pc and press F8 while booting just after the BIOS screen. OR got to start > type msconfig.exe into search and press enter. > got to Boot tab > Under Boot Options check Safe boot and Network click OK and restart.

Also lets get the info from your sfc scan.
Open an elevated command prompt again and type the following:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfc_log.txt"

post the file.

It looks like you may have some missing/corrupt sevices and/or their dependencies.

goto start > in search type cmd > right click on cmd.exe and select runas administrator > at the command promp type > sfc /scannow

When the scan is finished at the prompt type > lodctr /R
This should fix number 3 above. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775053(WS.10).aspx#CommunityContent  < see here for more info.

also goto start > right click on computer > manage > in the left hand pane > click the arrow next to Services and Applications to expand right click on service and click Export List... > give the file a name and under "Save as type" select Text (Comma Delimited) (*.csv) post this file.

BTW What is your OS ver? IE Windows 7 Ultimate 64

Awesome! I should be able to do this for most services if you need any other scripts just give me a shout and I'll be glad to help. In fact I am currently working on a program that will verify each out of the box service for Windows 7 (and then I'll add Vista & Windows 8) checking for corruption (against the way it would be for a clean install) and repairing only what is needed. In some cases rebuiling the service completely. It will also eventually check for that services dependencies etc and hopefully repair them as well. You'll be able to incorporate it very easily with your program if you desire. Otherwise it can be run as a stand alone. Of course, It'll make a backup of each service prior to repair. I'll be building against all the info that I have gained via clean dumps from all versions of Windows 7 etc. I've been meaning to do this for some time, guess that time is now.

Great, glad that took care of it! Just make sure that you double click to merge both of the KBLayout.reg and KBLayouts.reg files to restore the original registry keys if you haven't done so already and then you are done with this problem.

General Computer Support / Re: some updates could not be installed
« on: October 03, 2012, 11:58:41 pm »
OK, Try this one. This will empty the KeyBoardLayout keys completely. Double click the reg file to merge then try installing the update. Double click the backed up reg files on your desktop to restore the keys and then restart your PC.

Your PC seems to be missing the kbd101.dll (JP Japanese Keyboard Layout for 101) & kbd101a.dll (KO Hangeul Keyboard Layout for 101 (Type A)). The reg key for these dll files already did not exist in the KBLayouts.reg however there was an entry for jp and ko in the KBLayout.reg. These files should be located in the c:\windows\system32 folder. If you find them elsewhere in your PC copy them (don't move) to this location. Otherwise they are missing.

Were there any other faultykeyboard*.log files if so please post all of them!

OK, download the KBL_New.reg file double click to merge it then try to install the update again. If successful double click the 2 reg files that were backed up on your desktop (KBLayout.reg & KBLayouts.reg) to restore the reg keys then restart your PC. Otherwise just let me know it failed and we'll move on to the next step.

Yes and then post all the files created on your desktop. There should be 2 .reg and 1 or more .log files.

OK, Have you tried running the batch file above? If so can you post the reg and log files that were created on your desktop?

Shane here is a batch file that rebuilds the IP helper service from scratch using SC.exe for either Vista or Windows 7 all versions. It requires elevation to run successfully. I have tested it thoroughly. It will repair the service whether it is there or not. It also makes a back up of the services reg key before making any changes etc. Should be very easy for addition to your tool if you desire.

Basic work flow is as follows:
It is recommended that all networks (WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth) be disconnected prior to running, but not required (will most likely need to restart PC otherwise).

Checks to see if the Service Exists.
If Exists -> Check if Running
If not Exists-> OS Check
If Running -> Try to stop -> recheck.
If not Running-> Make a date/time stamped backup of services reg key in Documents.
Delete Service via SC
OS Check
Build the service according to OS.
Attempt to start the service -> Check if Running -> retry if not
Check the text output in the Console window and verify no errors occured.
If service cannot be Started PC must be restarted then Network connection(s) made.
Otherwise make Network Connections.

So a bit more research into this shows that there are a couple of possible issues that may cause this. The 1st being the one I mentioned above and the second pertains to some security settings that may be interferring with the install. We'll address the 2nd one first since it looks like MS has a FIX IT solution (Method 1) for it at the bottom of the page here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686509  or see Method 1 below.

EDIT: Method 1 is as follows:
1. Run Microsoft Fix it 50882. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9812279

2. Install the security update.

3. Run Microsoft Fix it 50883. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9812280

If that doesn't work then you'll need to do the following:

Run the batch file above and post the files so Shane or I can help you to fix the registry entries that need to be deleted. If you want you can also export the reg files manually and search for and find the needed log files manually (read the info in the link above). I just made the batch file to take some of the work out for you. Just trying to help. If you post them I'll create a reg file that will have the needed repairs in it and then you should be able to restart and then try to install the update again. Keep the exported reg files that are created on your desktop as a back up.

General Computer Support / Re: some updates could not be installed

The batch file is 100% safe. If you right click on it and select edit you'll see that it exports (Backs Up) 2 registry keys and copies any faultykeyboard.log files it finds in the %WinDir% (C:\Windows) to your desktop. These logs are needed to find the bad reg values in the exported reg keys. These values need to be deleted so that your Update will Install. The batch file doesn't delete or change anything on your PC at all just gives the info needed to fix it. If you would rather do this all on your own manually the info is here:

Download this batch file to your Desktop and double click it (you may need to right click and run as admin) and post the KBLayouts.reg, KBLayout.reg files along with any faultykeyboard.log files that it copies to your Desktop.
