Everything Else / Re: Videocard Upgrade
« on: September 24, 2012, 01:21:38 am »
So I got the card and it's working fine, not a huge fps increase ofcourse, but the games run smoother. I do have a question though:

My card has a 1024mb DDR3. But when I open EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner, they say: Memory Clock 500 Mhz, now is there something wrong or are these just two different things? Like I said, I'm not really a hardware kinda guy :x

Thanks

Thanks alot for your input! The HD 7750 is a bit out of my price range, I had enough money, but I went on vacation two times before I realised I needed to upgrade my PC a bit  :cheesy: . Also thanks for the charts, 50% should do it for now. I already get nice FPS in games (on low settings ofcourse), it's just that sometimes games don't feel that smooth and I'm hoping to boost that a little. The improved stats should help, but the main reason I'm also switching is the Directx 11 support and the Opengl 4.2 support, which should help with it, I think.

Thank you for your responses, I'm glad I didn't order the wrong card!

Oh and maybe one last question, is it a problem when a card is like a few inches smaller in width or length or do cards have to be exactly the same? (Not a hardware kinda guy  ) Thanks.

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, more fps is not my main goal, it's just that sometimes games don't seem to run that smooth or have some stuttering and I was hoping to fix that with this card. Glad I made a good choice!

Everything Else / Videocard Upgrade

Hi,

I didn't know where else to start this topic, so I hope I'm right..

I bought a computer like a year or two ago maybe 3, can't remember exactly, and the videocard that is in it is the Nvidia G210 512mb, It's just a basic card, I can run WoW, GW2, etc.. Ofcourse on low settings, I do get 100+ fps in WoW though, but I can't get above 50 in GW2 and the gameplay doesn't seem all that smooth. Here are the stats:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-210/specifications

Now, I wanted to upgrade my card just a little, right now I don't have the money to buy a whole new computer so, I'm stuck with a 300W power supply which doesn't give me alot of choices when it comes to getting a nice videocard..I'm also not really interested in upgrading my power supply and getting a SUPER videocard, just something to get by for a few months. So I ordered the Nvidia GT610 1GB. Haven't paid anything yet, by ordering I mean it'll be available in the computer store near me. The stats from this card are:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-610/specifications

I'm not a hardware specialist and I'm not looking for a BIG upgrade, just something to make my games run that little bit smoother. It has 3x the CUDA processors my current one has, more memory, higher clock speeds, directx 11 support instead of 10.1, opengl 4.2 support instead of 3.1 and also it's max. temperature is 102° instead of 105° and the power usage 29w instead of 30w.

So my question is, did I make a good choice, or is there a better card that can run on a 300W power supply. Thank you for your time.

I think I'm just going to take it to the shop where I bought and see if they can figure it out.

According to this page:

http://www.geeks3d.com/20110516/tested-asus-radeon-hd-6670-review/6/

The official TDP of the HD 6670 is 66W. But I also read stuff about 92 Watts and 194 watts. And that a PCI Express slot is limited to 75w ? So uhm, yeah, I read that this card should run good on a 300w power supply as far as I can tell. But what about this PCI Express slot being limited to 75w when according to these tests you will need 92?

I could also go to the shop and ask them for advice, but it will also cost me a 30$ extra to have them put it in. But yeah, I suppose if they'll tell me that it will work and they put it in and it doesn't, I should have some guarantee, I hope..

I was thinking about getting an Asus Radeon HD6670. According to what I read, you should be able to run this card on any computer right? I mean, if you have a PCI Express 2.1 port, which everyone has right? The card I have right now requires that too, so I suppose that's alright. Or do I have to keep other things in mind too? I know I'm kinda, maybe, looking a bit stupid here, but I've always been more into software than hardware and I rather be sure before spending money.

General Computer Support / Memory Leak ?

So here I am again, lol. I seem to be having ALOT of computer issues lately  :undecided:

So, I run Cleanmem, always, It runs with startup. And I notice that sometimes after startup my computer is using +- 600mb of memory, but most of the time it's around 1.2-1.5 GB and to me that looks like alot.. The only things I have running at startup are:

- Cleanmem
- Avast
- Superantispyware
- F.lux

But I highly doubt they are the cause of this memory usage. I'm not an expert, maybe this usage is normal, but to me it just looks like alot..

Anyways, yeah, thanks for the advice to come.

My computer is:

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E6600 @ 3.06GHz
CPU Speed: 3.1 GHz
RAM: 4 GB

I think I bought him last year or the year before that. When I check if I can run games I always
fail on the videocard part, It's still the videocard that came with the computer. I know it's not
a high-end gaming computer, but I do have the feeling it's my videocard always letting me down.

Thanks alot for the list, I will check that out.

Also, I'm always afraid that I don't have enough Watt or what is it called? To support my videocard, how can I check how much I got?

And I know there's a difference ofcourse between a 512mb card and a 1GB card, but does that make alot of difference in gaming or are there other points I should pay attention too ?

Thanks guys.

So basicly, I'm not very rich and I'm looking for a good videocard under 200€.

Right now I got Nvidia G210 and I'm looking for a decent upgrade.
Doesn't have to be top notch, but if I can run BF3 and games like that.

I just noticed that my videocard is only 512 mb so cards starting at 1GB would be nice.

Thanks for your advice.

Now that my computer is running decent again I'd like to try AST again too. I was just wondering does it have ALOT more tweaks than the Simple version, I mean in terms of improving the speed of your computer, not options like Defrag at startup or something ?

Yeah, I installed it again and it works like a charm, very cool little program, also nice that you can adjust almost everything.

Do you have some other recommendations for ("little") tools that help your computer run just that tad bit better?

Another funny thing is that only one of my speakers was working, thought the other one had broken down so never really looked into it. After I installed W7 again, it came back to life  :cheesy:

I think my registry was messed up completely somehow, maybe fooling around a bit too much. I got BSoD and decided I might as well just format my computer and reinstall Windows 7. I used the Simple System Tweaker this time and that seems to work fine. I could see the message that it was loading my desktop etc.. So I think I'll just stick to that for now. Thanks alot for your help and providing everyone with these great programs.

So I downloaded Cleamem and I enabled Auto Run and Auto Clean and I put it on every 15 minutes, but it keeps saying "Last chec: Never".. Does it only change when it exceeds the usage % you entered or is this program also not working for me? Well, the minimonitor is working and it's showing my memory usage, but it doesn't seem to be autochecking  :undecided:

Furthermore, I'm installing Avast again, going to clean and defrag my computer, uncheck all the Auto-Startup programs and services that I don't need and then run AST again, I hope this will help and I'll post in a bit (depending on how long the defragging takes etc..).

Edit: I just tried "Change CleanMem Autorun time" via the menu and it opens your windows task thingy or something and I get an "error" stating "Can not locate external computer", I don't know if I translated that correctly, but it's something along those lines.

Nevermind, It checked, although it didn't start counting the 15 minutes from when the program started.

You sure are on alot of site :D haha, but yeah, the tweak still didn't get applied and I'm getting a bit clueless here, because I know it worked last week..But I'm going to bed now (European timezone), but i'll check in again tomorrow, thanks for the help so far.  Hope we can figure it out, because I really loved the tweaks, when they applied :D

Ok, I'll try that, btw, do you have any experience with Cacheman? I'm kinda looking for a program to optimize my computer for gaming besides Game Booster and I don't really know or have the feeling that this program is doing much

I had Panda Cloud antivirus running, wanted to test it, but probably going back to AVG or something, uhm, I have Cacheman running, but nothing that should block access to the registry..
