Title: [SOLVED] Ran registry restore now won't boot Windows 7 64bit
Post by: Broomptish on November 30, 2016, 07:28:22 am
Hi guys my computer was sluggish and I had this file called wise care that hadn't uninstalled that was said to cause problems. I then remembered I had this program on my computer and I thought oh I will restore the registry from a previous point, like 2 months ago. I'm on Windows 7 64bit

Now my laptop won't boot, just goes to a blank screen with white cursor. I've tried all the boot up options after pressing f8, safe mode won't work just black screen with white cursor at a lower resolution. All happened after I done this registry back up with the tweaking device.

Any ideas? best thing I can think of is getting a Windows boot cd and booting from there.

Thanks for any help that may come my way.

I've had this happen to me when using restore points and found all I could do was to factory reset with OEM recovery disks then restore with an external system image.

I tried all you have and found it wouldn't boot even with a System Repair disk or an install disk.

One thing I remember not doing though was a cold boot by removing all power sources and holding the power button in for ~30 secs but as it has probably screwed your MBR, that may not even work.

I don't have any other solutions.

If the MBR is screwed, you could try downloading MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable 9.1 from https://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html (https://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-wizard-bootable-cd.html) to another PC and burning the ISO to disc. I haven't used the bootable disc but I have used the Windows installed free version of the software and rate it highly. I think it should be able to repair your MBR if that is what's causing your problem.

Thanks guys good leads, saved them. Remembered I had a Lenovo one key recovery thing, never used it. It's restoring it from a previous back up, if I get it back to the way it was when I first got it great got most important stuff backed up. Thanks for the advice I'll let you know how I get on.

Still game you don't get your name from the Scottish tv show do you? Lol

That sounds promising - is the Lenovo one key thing the equivalent of an OEM recovery disk ?

My laptops are Toshiba cheapies.

No, I'm from Durham and the name just came to me.

Great news about your computer though - thought you were going to have real problems if you couldn't get back in.

When you're done you can mark your thread as [SOLVED] by going to your opening post, click on Modify and add that to the title.
