I turned my Dell XPS 1640 laptop on and eventually received the following Windows 10 error message.
Critical Error
Start menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in.
I signed in again and again only to receive the same error. I then tried booting into safe mode and running Tweak.com 3.7. I tried to run Repairs and the pre-scan cmd came up and nothing happened. I let it sit for about an hour.
I have a backup image dated 11.20.2015 and a windows 7 64bit repair cd. After booting from the CD it did not find the image.
I am out of ideas. You are my first stop.

As you have found out, a Win 7 repair disk won't work on Win 10.
However, this article will walk you through creating a Win 10 recovery disk and how to use it.

:cheesy: Thank you!
It took some trial and error on my part, but I think I am up and running. My image is a couple weeks old; so now I need to do some updating.
Again, THANK YOU!
